My friends mare died this morning. She gave birth to a colt at 4am who is now in desperate need of a surrogate mum.
Foal is in West Sussex. Does anyone know of anyone that could help?
Thank you.

Omg your friend must be at her wits end and poor little foal, contact the foaling bank at Newmarket, or maybe there is one closer to you, your vet might know good luck and keep us posted pleeez, that everything goes okay, am thinking of your friend and the poor little colt x |

Such bad news! I know someone who had a mare but in Wales, not sure if that's any use. Or Wendy Carr at Silverdale she has a lot experience at this kind of thing, she might be able to suggest something.
Good luck

what a lovely and thoughtful thing to do when she herself was and must be devastated at her own loss, to think of others at such a tragic time, I take my hat off to people such as she x I really hope this boy finds a mum very soon as time is of the essence x |

UPDATE
Thanks for the replies I've forwarded on Kristi Bell's telephone number, where abouts is she based?
It's actually a friend of a friends foal and she's just told me that the foal is actually at the Diary House Stud in Warminster NOT West Sussex. The mare is based in West Sussex but must have gone to the stud for foaling.
I understand the Horse & Hound are going to put it on the front page of their website. |

I belive Warminster is in Wiltshire.
Also I thought you may be interested to know that it is Tina Cook the event rider who requires the surrogate after loosing her lovely mare. |

Hi, sorry for not getting back with an update sooner.
I am pleased to say that a surrogate mum has now been found for the foal.
Kristi Belle, thank you for the very kind offer of the collostrum. Fortunately, the foal did get this from Doris before she sadly had to be pts.
Thank you all very much for your help and concern regarding this poor little chap, Tina is very grateful.
Fingers crossed all goes well with his new mum. You never know he may turn out to be an eventing star of the future! I'll keep you updated on his progress. x
