I was there too! The grey filly was very pretty and what a bargain, lovely calm temperament, nice head and good confo, I very nearly bid. I think she made £650 in the end(someone started chatting and so I got a little distracted), total bargain. A ridden coloured made 2k and I saw two unreg shetlands with foals at foot for £420 a piece so not the worst trade ever!!

Why oh why do people keep breeding from their mares if they havn't got the facilities. This poor filly has to end up going through a sale just because the mare is in foal again and they havn't got enough land. Is this fair on the filly. What about the new foal to be, will that end up at a sale as well?

Lets just hope this filly has gone to a decent home.

Agree with the above she was lucky that she made £650 alot of yearlings were fetching £100ish at best saw one go for 25 guinea i left at this point, felt quite ill.

I really hope his next foal doesn't end up there, I'm suprised he let her go for that amount of money he's made a considerable loss, what with the stallions stud fee being £600, lets hope he's learned his lesson.

The purebred filly made a shade short of £800 was beautifully turned out and a very relaxed and happy individual (not scared in the slightest!)

Although she started off fairly slow there were 2 people pushing each other at the end and a youngish gentleman bought her.

I didnt see the Shulay mare - was she there?

Well i have just phoned a friend who goes to the sales every month whos a Palomino judge she told me it was awfull she saw Shulay Montana there & she was unrecognisable , she was as thin as a rake covered in rainscald she`d obviously been out on a mountain all winter ,her eyes were lifeless she had a pally foal at foot who was about 2 months old who was also thin & lifeless & wasn`t drinking from its mum
The mare & foal sold for £600 , its really upset me to hear this & i was nearly in tears but i had to find out

I saw the mare and foal go through - was that really Montanna?
I was expecting a horse not a little pony mare? Unless there were 2 pallys with foals, this one went through ring 2?
Colt foal looked ok though, quite perky actually though mare did look a bit poor, maybe the ones i saw were a different pairing?
It didnt say on the catalogue that Montanna had a foal at foot though?

I think we've already established that the "perky" foal was not with the Shulay mare Sarahlock!

Every Breeders worst nightmare To hear of such a sad outcome of a once glorious animal, ending up in such a sorry and neglected state

One wonders how she came to such demise. We are very concerned when we sell a youngster, thoroughly vet the `buyer` and make a point of asking for us to be contacted in the event that circumstances dictate they have to sell at a later date.

This has in fact helped us be involved in `placing on` to new homes and hopefully we will never have to witness a similar outcome to a Sunray bred horse.

Can only hope this poor mare and very unwell foal have now found a caring and knowledgeable home and both will be returned to good health in a long term home

God it makes you feel sick doesn't it, I know nothing about horse sales but surely horses shouldn't be allowed into the sale ring in such a poor condition!! Aren't the sales checked out by the RSPCA & if so do they ever do anything about animals in very poor condition? Is there any way we could find out who bought her?

Working on the basis they won't tell you it was perhaps a cash sale so could well be a dealer. Is there no way we can get our heads together and source some dealers around the 'area' and try and find her ?? Jill Duke is in Wales perhaps she may hear something if the mare did indeed find a nice home ?? Worth a try.
PS Just got my Dad to try Evans Bros too ( he's a Welshman with a Welsh accent ) but just as unhelpful !! Obviously not having a heart must be a great help to these people !!

Have asked the person who bought the Welsh mare and foal to see if they can through a light onto the subject.
