Think to get up any decent hills with a double trailer you really do need a proper 4x4. What about a SWB Shogun or Landcruiser, or a Kia Sorento? If you get pre-Y reg you still pay the older rate of road tax anyway. |

My Toyota Landcruiser is a "04" plate and is only £215 per annum road tax! Brilliant car and you'd hardly know you're towing with it. It's an automatic and I still get 30mpg!! |

I have a Y reg disco, £210 a year tax, can pull a house. On the flip side it has a 4 litre V8 injection which is fine until you accidentally push the sport mode then it turns into a beast and you have to stay within easy reach of petrol stations. |

I love my "M" reg Disco. Its an Automatic and great to drive.
Took it down to Exmoor towing a double trailer with 2 horses on board, all loaded up with feed, hay, water containers and camping gear for 5 days at the Golden Horse Shoe.
It towed up and down the hills with no problem.

hi, we have an L reg SWB daihatsu fourtrak that is still going strong and has never let us down in four years- plus you never know you have a trailer behind, and its a diesel so more economical -only downside is that they don't make them any more but I'm sure there must be some older ones about! |

I also loved my diesel SWB Daihatsu Fourtrak for towing, it was an F-reg and was a super car for the 8 years I had it. I traded it in for a W-reg SWB Isuzu Trooper (diesel again) last year and that also tows superbly. My "tester" is a 1:8 hill which has several bends - I can get up it in 3rd gear with one horse or easily in 2nd gear with two with either of those cars (without breaking into a cold sweat in case I run out of oomph)!

Hi,
Can't recommend the Kia Sorreto highly enough!! They were voted best 4 x 4 tow vehicle two years in a row, according to OH. He put in a great deal of research before we bought ours. Even with the two horses in the trailer, you hardly feel you are pulling anything.
At a recent wash-out of a show it breezed through ground where others just couldn't go.
Love it, great family car as welland seem to be holding their value too.... |

I also had a 4trak which was SUPERB for towing. My only complaint was that it was a SWB so not a lot of space to get all the equipment needed for an endurance ride. When it died, I replaced it with a Trooper, which I just LOVE. It is superb - just brilliant for towing with. |
