My brother took my dog Jess to work with him on friday 17th in the middle of the country next to a massive lake. He was working outdoors all day and she was just pottering around in the bushes all day.
When he went to leave at 2pm he couldnt find her. He searched for a while but she didn't come back. His friends carried on working for the rest of the day until 8pm and never saw her again. We have been back to the area every morning and evening and shouted and yelled but shesnot there. We have been to every house and farm within 2 miles of the area and no one has seen her.
She is a small, black, long haired jack russel cross.
I have phoned the dog warden, vets, rspca, dog kennels and reported it on the local radio stations. I have also put up posters every where but still no response.
We are now really panicking as she has never dissapeared before and she didn't know where she was. We are thinking that she may have got stuck down a rabbit hole but we cant hear any barking or whineing in the area. We also think she may have been bitten by a snake which will have killed her or attacked by a badger?
Its killing me not knowing whats happened to her. Ive checked all the ditches along side the roads incase shesbeen hit by a car but as yet have not found abody.
Some people think that she might have been stolen as she just suddenly dissapeared.
Does anyone on here have any experience with their dogs getting lost/stuck down holes etc?? What did you do? How did you find your dog?
Any stories good or bad are welcomed.....just want toknow if theres still hope of findingher or if i should except that shes not coming back.
im completely heart broken.
Thanks Holly x

Leave something familiar in the area she was last seen, your jacket, jumper etc or her own blanket. Is she microchipped? Would she normally go off rabbiting on her own territory? Chances are some well meaning person has "rescued " her and is going round telling everyone that this lovely little dog has been abandoned.... I've seen it happen several times at work, but we often recognise the dog and are able to reunite them with their real owner.
Two weeks ago a collie bitch was rescued, taken to the grooming parlour and then brought in to be vaccinated.....later that day it was back home on the farm with the farmer complaining about the smell of shampoo!! |

I cant give you any advice, so sorry, but you seem to be doing everything possible, i just feel terribly sorry for you. Maybe someone picked her up thinking she was a stray? I did exactly the same one time, a dog ran out in front of my car near a fishing lake, i caught her and went to the lake to question if she was anyones dog, the people there all told me she had been hanging around for days, so i bundled her up and took her home, however i did ring the dog warden and the rspca. The next morning i got a call from her owners, she hadnt been dumped nor was she lost, i had more or less stolen her. The road she was crossing actually went to the land she lived on, so she was on her way home (oops) her owners were lovely and grateful and understanding (thank god) that i only had the best intentions. You never know your girl might have met a do-gooder like myself. |

The Dog Rescue Pages has a Lost and Found Section that you can post on www.dogpages.org.uk. My little terrier went missing chasing foxes and came back. Don't give up looking and hoping. Whereabouts are you because you could arrange a search party? I really feel for you. |

My friend lost her JRT whilst out for a walk one day. She got a local man who hunted rabbits to take his dog along to try to find her in case she was stuck down a hole somewhere. Unfortunately they did not find her but she turned up at home a couple of days later. The nearest we have come to explaining what happened was that she had got stuck down a hole for a couple of days. With nothing to eat she lost weight and managed to get out of the hole once she was not wedged in so tightly. If I remember right she was missing for over a week so don't give up hope. |

Thanks for all your comments. Im trying to stay positive but i feel sick just thinking about her and it gets worse the longer shes gone.
Ive registered her with dog lost and theres a picture of her on Cornwallcam website if anyone wants to have a look incase they see her. If shes been stolen then she could be anywhere as it was easter last week and the campsites were full.
We have been back to the area everyday and searched and searched.
Ive just found out that there are known badger sets in that area so need to find out where thewy are. have also been told today that there are mine shafts so need to find out where they are too.
Im still hoping and hearing others stories makes me feel a bit better.
Thanks again Holly |

Hi all.
She went missing from the Towednack area on the out skirts of St.Ives at 2pm on FRiday 17th. THere is a massive lake and clay works where my brother was working and there is apparantly a well known badger set. Shes not been there before and although she is a little hunter she doesnt normally wander very far in new areas.
I spoke to a clar voyant today just as ive tried everything else. The lady said that she could sense that Jess is still in the same area and that she has fallen from a height, prehaps down a hole and injured herself very badly, the lady said that she thinks the dog is dead as she is not picking up on any energy at all.
It makes me feel sick thinking about it but the lady could be right. there are mine shafts in the near area and lots and lots of rabbit holes.
But on a positive note we also had a phone call of a possible sighting of a small black dog wearing a red collar who was spotted half way between where she went missing and where we live. We have searched the area but cant find her.
Just have to wait and see. Its the worst feeling in the world

My old GSD escaped the day I collected her. She headed for her old home some 20 miles away. After about a week she was spotted on some farm land half way between my house and her old home, it took a further week for us (old owner and myself) to track her down and get her home. Don't give up just yet. |

Take another dog with you. Surely a friend has one that is trustworthy to work, and will search?? Their hearing and smell are far superior to ours.
I hope all ends well for you and the dog. |

Hi all
Still no news. WE have now put posters up in the area that the dog was sighted last night but noone has called. We have put her in all the local newspapers which come out tomorrow so that might jog peoples memories!
My mum and aunty went out early this morning to the spot where she went missing and took my aunties 2 collies but didnt find anything. the collies were drawn to a particular set of rabbit holes but mum shouted down the holes and waited and waited but heard nothing and couldnt see anything.
Mum also met a man who works the old china clay works next door and he let them search his land amd said that there are not any deep holes, ditches/pits etc in the area that he is aware of. The mine shafts are a couple of fields away so we dont think she would have gone that far.
