Top Australian endurance rider Meg Wade is in a coma after a fall during a ride last Sunday. Wade was competing at the Tumbarumba ride when Castlebar Dell reportedly shied at a puddle, and Wade fell. It was close to a checkpoint and she was attended by a doctor and ambulance officers quickly.
Wade was airlifted by Snowy Hydro Southcare Rescue Helicopter to Royal Canberra Hospital and is in the intensive care unit.
Wade has been Australia's endurance rider of the year nine times, has three team World Championships bronze medals, and has won the Tom Quilty Gold Cup four times.
Great that everyone is remaining so positive and Meg is nearer home. I hope her condition continues to improve. Head injuries do take a long time to heal so there is every hope she will make a full return to normal.
