My horse, Moonbeam (Connemara X) contracted navicular in 1990 when she was 9. This was mainly down to bad farriery (I kept asking him why her feet were odd and he said it was her foot conformation) After a course of Navilox treatment and 9 months off and a brand new farrier she was never lame with it again and I rode her until a month before she died at 26! The only thing I didn't do with her was trot on the roads and was careful about the type of terrain I would let her canter on but she continued with unaffiliated showing and I trained her up to elementary dressage, she just didnt jump again but only because I chose not to let her do it.
At that time there were no supplements as such specifically for navicular and it didn't flare at particular times of the year but I was just really careful about working her on hard ground and making sure her front shoes were done every 6-8 weeks.
Hope this helps you. Rachel |
