I bought some chickens on Tuesday, I have never kept chickens before, but loved the idea of fresh eggs everyday, they are really pretty and have given them a lovely coop and they started laying straight away bless them, I could not believe the buzz I got from collecting my first egg........... then this morning I planted my lettuce seeds and tomato seeds and cannot wait to see them growing, who would have believed it, my O/H is very amused that his wife, who does not open the door till got her face on and spends a fortune on her nails, is keeping chickens and planting veg, but I have to say I am really enjoying myself, the next thing to do is to furnish the Gite for the tourists as really want to do that too

Well now you need a cow or at least a goat for milk and than make your own butter, cheese etc. And then sheep or lamas for wool to do your own jumpers etc.

I nearly got some chickens last year for down at the yard they were the ones that had been in cages and really wanted to give them a better life but we are overrun with foxes during the day aswell so i thought better of it.
But I have grown my own salad stuff and its great. I have started some this year aswell. So far I have got growing mixed salad leaves, red spring onions that are delish Tomatoes and radishes.
Mmmmmm cant wait,.

Sounds divine!
I really want to have some chickens too. I used to keep Perissa on a free range egg farm and they're lovely birds, some can be positively evil and others get really friendly but all have personality. Its lovely watching them doing what chickens do but like Janet I have lots of foxes and would have to keep them shut up in a coup - which I wouldn't like. |

we bought chickens last year, the first animals on our land. I love collecting eggs daily and talking to my hens every day. We also have ewes and are proud granny and grandad, as 3 lambs were born today!!!! most of the animals have names. It will be a veggie patch once the barn is finished.

Well, no need to water the veggies I planted as it lashed down all day!!!! but my chickens gave me two fresh eggs, bless them and they are not so scared of me when I go into them now and they listen when I talk to them, even the horses are used to them now I always wondered why people got so attached to their chickens and thought it a bit silly before, but I love my chickens and would be choked if anything happened to them, so I am one of those silly people now and I am as pleased as punch!!!!! |
