One of my labrador brood bitches has a strange skin reaction. It started on her leg, little scabs that pull off with the hair attacted. This cleared and is growing back. Now its started on face and shoulder. She does not itch it. Its just like rain scald or mud fever. Any clues? Of course this has come at a time when Ive just finnished paying a load of show entries

This sounds like mange to me. I'd get it checked out by your Vet.
It could also be a hormone imbalance.
Hope you get it sorted. |

Yes like NatH says could be mange or a hormonal/food problem, best get it checked out by the vet, if it is mange and you have other dogs they will need treating too. Best of luck, keep us posted. |

Oooh my cat has this and is such a little wierdo (said in the fondest terms) and scared of her own shadow that i had the vet look at her at home when he'd come to pts my other cat so as not to stress her too much. He said it was a hormonal thing and nothing much could be done. He advised to get one of those plug ins to help but with all the other cats and dogs around i didn't think it would do much. She calls alot too although she is done and goes through stages of being really healthy looking and others like a battery hen. I'd try and get it looked at though, although with no itching and spreading to other dogs it doesn't sound like mange. Maybe its a dermatological condition? Animals ey they're so costly |

One of mine had fox mange a couple of years ago, it was the constant (and I mean constant) scratching and nibbling which was the first sign, even before any scabs or hair loss. Neither of my other dogs were affected. |

It sounds more like a bacterial infection to me. Mange is often itchy, and the hair can be sparse but doesn't usually come out in clumps. How old is she? and has she had any pups recently?? |

Hi Thanks everyone. She is 14 months and due on heat, to be bred this time. Dont think it can be mange, maybe Im wrong tho. Its def not itching her. Only other thing Im thinking is maybe could be caused from something in the water, my dogs swim daily in a pond or river. She is now on anti biotics. We will see soon what happens. all the best from Movida Labradors |
