we watched the mare so carefully when we knew her foal was due our neighbour helped us keep an eye as he knew what to do
she was staying in the paddock to be always in our sight it was also very close at hand to check her through the night
Her foal had died the year before- it caused us great heartache; we'd do our best, this time,to see there would be no mistake
The stud farm gave a foaling date we wrote it carefully down but 3 weeks later, still no foal was causeing many a frown
At last her time was very near she'd paced about all day we knew that it was labour pains- the foal was on its way
At midnight things were moving slow, we thought we'd take a break; A cup of tea would warm us and keep us all awake
That was the cue she'd waited for some mares are shy we're told we came back 10 minutes later to find she had already foaled

Oh, how true about the foaling when there's nobody watching! One of mine decided to foal during the afternoon when everyone had gone for lunch! |

Super poem, thankyou Bertie B You know, it's sooo true. When Gem had Kizzy, she held on for a whole week, whilst Jo was at Uni, she took a whole week off just for the occassion... to cut a long story short, the Sunday night she drove back to Uni... it happened! Also one of our WB mares Millie, she held on and held on until one Sunday, whilst we went out to a show (only popped out for a couple of hours)... So, we decided to turn her out for a couple of hours so she could get a stretch of legs and be a little more comfortable... Two hours later we come back, neighbour commented 'how nice to see mare and foal turned out...!'... Eh???
The task of trying to bring-in a mare and GIANT foal (ofcourse never been touched by humans...!) out of an 8 acre field with 5 uncle and aunties hooning about and trying to 'get a bit of the action' was DEF fun and games!
All's well that ends well...
They're there to try us... I swear!

legand of the arabian horse
The morning sun painted a red desert sky, Praises and prayers were chanted on high. Whispering winds moved over the land, Restlessly shifting the parched, white sand.
The sky grew dark, from crimson to gray, Shadowy clouds mounted in swirling arrays. Torrents of sand eclipsed the sun, Earth and Sky became as one.
From this mystical play of Earth and Sky Came a shrieking, thundering, mighty cry - Like the shrieking call of a million birds, Like the thundering hoofs of a mighty herd.
Swiftly this tempest of swirling sand Raced the lightning across the land. Then God reached out, seizing this whirlwind force, And from its fury formed the Arabian horse.
The creature's beauty was unsurpassed, Its gait elegant, its speed lightning fast. Intelligent, graceful, a regal force - God's masterpiece, the Arabian horse.
