I'm assuming you ask this question 'cause you wish to breed a foal that is going to be tall?
Please bear in mind that the stallion doesn't necessarily have to be tall to produce stock that is tall.
Take Mahaala for example, he is only around 15hh but all of his stock, with no exception are very tall. I have two friends with fillies of his [one is a 2 year old the other a 3 year old]. The 3 year old already measures 15.2hh + and the 2 year old isn't very far behind.
Woodbank have also retained a black colt by Mahaala and he isn't 2 yet and he is HUGE, very leggy & typey.
I have seen most, if not all of his stock and they are all the same.
BIG UP Mahaala! Literally |

Lots of Arab stallions are breeding very much larger progeny!
My boy's dad Psynergy is 16hh - and the youngster I have, rising four, is already nearly that! |

I was worried that my boy would be too big, he is standing at nearly 15:3 at the moment and is rising 4. He is by Affirmmed whos is by Magnum Psyche, out of a Bey Shah mare, all of whom are tall except for the mare. Georgina xx |

I can recommend one or two stallons, Ronaldo who is very tall possibly 16hh, and Narismma who is also 16hh but as pointed out some smaller stallions will produce bigger than themselves , mine being one of them , he is a small 14.3 yet he is the sire of Narismma and several other tall babies, but before anyone jumps on me for advertising, I must stress the My stallion is not at public stud, |

Its also worth checking with your chosen stallion that you do not gain the height at the expense of longer canon bones, etc. (not referring to the above two stallions or Psynergy at all, they are all gorgeous!!)

My Crusader stallion is almost 16 hands and my SE by GR Amaretto is 15 2" and still growing, he will not be 4 until May. I expect him to make 15 3"2 at least. There are a lot of big stallions around. You need to decide what you want as well as height and then look for a suitable stallion. Does your mare need a better topline, better legs, a deeper body, better head etc? Are there any bloodlines you want/don't want? Where are you in the country and are you prepared to travel your mare to the right stallion?

I believe that Michele; Ali's half brother G Lanzelot is 15.3hh and is out of Lalique (15.1?) and by Andrus who was under 15hh I think.
Shalkar (Old English - who I used to ride at one time) was a half an inch over 15hh but many of his offspring are well up into the 15.2hh bracket.
Jasjmm - Psynergy-son Kamal's cannons are not long at all, certainly well in proportion, though at 4, he is so tall, I'm giving him plenty of time to grow into his own huge frame. |

My Rimarli is 15.2 and his sister is 15. His mum was just 14.2 in shoes and dad was 14hh. You can never be sure of size as tall stallions can still produce small offspring. You could look at the ancestors as my mare's father was 15.1. |

I agree with NatH. My friend's stallion is only just 15hh if he's lucky, but ALL his offspring make at least 15.2hh! |

OTOH my smallest has two parents over 15hh, one about 15.2 the other 15.1 and she's barely made 14.2! In fact I tihnk she might only be 14.1 on tiptoes. Needless to say I bred her to get a tall Arab.... |

Karon,
That sounds typical, they always throw a surprise at you. If you look back at the grandparents you will almost certainly see why you got a small horse!

Parrot
An Arab should be 14 to 15 hands but there is no breed limit so any size is acceptable. People are breeding for size, colour etc. so I guess we can expect them to be a bit bigger and they are also better fed than in past times especially in the harsh environment of the desert. My personal preference is 15 - 15 3" but don't mind a 14 3". However, my best mare is just under 14 3" and I wouldn't swap her for a 15 2". Althought I know she has her faults to me she is just perfect. She always produces big foals although the stallions I have used have all been a good size. Her full sister is 15 21/2" and she has produced smaller foals - strange thing, breeding.

it would be ashame if arabs went the same way as some mountin and moorlands and lost the real type, most m and m breeds now have a height limit, should this happen with the arabs? |
