Does anyone else who uses rubber matting find it can leave marks? I have 2 on rubber mats and a wee strip, and both have little rub marks on the same places on their legs, they have left hardish scaly skin which they hate me picking off even when I soften it first with cream. I am not sure if stable boots are a good idea for they they are 2 and 3 year old colts, any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

i have mats but a fullish bed ontop, same method used like you by four other horses and no marks? puzzling this one, what bedding are you using and where abouts are the rubs on the leg |

I'm the same - full bed ontop of rubber mats as his lordship won't lay down unless he has loads of bedding to scrape into a mound! He also uses the banks as pillows and rests his head on them
Others on the yard use mats with very little bedding. They haven't mentioned 'marks or scrapes' but to be honest not many of them lay down - guess once they've had a wee and it's all wet, they don't want to? |

I don't use any bedding at all and none of my horses have marks from lying down on their mats (I leave their doors open so they can go out to pee) |

Hi Angelarab I am using Megazorb on one as he eats everything else (so daren't put a full bed down just in case) and Aubiose in the other, the one on Aubiose never wees on the mats he always goes on his strip at the back so he has the rest of the space to lay down, I did have him on a full bed but he trails poo through his bed and literally obliterates it into tiny pieces so it takes forever to muck out and shavings are meant to be less back breaking! Now that he goes on this strip I'm throwing out less and it doesn't take forever just these little marks it is rubbed fur on hocks and the scaly stuff with pushed up fur on fetlock joint and I want to show them, it had also happened on a 3rd I've just sold, on his knees it was fur rubbed shorter than the rest! |

Mine are all on rubber matting with a full bed of chopped straw called maxi bed and never had a problem. They all roll and lie down as well. |

yes ros has that on his hocks just and hes got a bed on top of his rubber mats. I think he is scrapping his on the wall more than the floor though. the only real way is to keep them on a good full bed with banks really. ros can't have banks in his stable at the moment cause he stands up them and annoys the mares lol. |
