Having seen threads on other sites about this show being cancelled, I have just phoned the show secretary.
The agricultural part of the show has been cancelled, but the equestrian classes will still take place, but there might be a change of date.

Such a shame - I thought now they had their own site it would flourish. Found this on the internet: The 2009 Royal Lancashire Show has been cancelled after wrangles between show organisers and the Duchy of Lancaster, which owns the showground at Bartle.
Last year's show was cancelled before the gates opened due to the site being waterlogged.
Organisers say a series of smaller events are being planned instead as fundraisers, with the county show hopefully returning in 2010.
The event is believed to be one of the oldest agricultural shows in England.
The Royal Lancashire Agricultural Society (RLAS), which organises the event, said it had no choice but to quit the site at Myerscough, owned by the Duchy of Lancaster, because it could not host the show in bad weather.
No investment
The organisation said the Duchy's agents had "made it clear that they were not prepared to invest any further capital in the development of the site at South Planks Farm (Myerscough), or to undertake the promised development of buildings there".
Wendy George, chairwoman of the RLAS, said: "We are getting over the disappointments and are looking forward to the future.
"They are already looking carefully at a game fair and a food fair which will celebrate the wide variety and quality of foods produced right here in Lancashire.
"There are also plans for a number of equestrian events, the first of which will be held on 8 March."

As a Lancastrian born and bred this is very sad news, though not totally unexpected. The new showground near Myerscough was highly controversial from the start - none of the local residents wanted it and the whole success of the project lay in the Government giving the go ahead for a new motorway junction north of Preston. This isn't going to happen now and I would guess that is the reason the Duchy are not willing to plough any further investment into the site.
Now it seems RLAS will be on the hunt for another new location for the show. As it was held for a few years at Aintree perhaps this is the way forwards? With all the new equestrian facilities there it would certainly be one solution, although of course Aintree is not actually in Lancashire. But as long as we get our county show back I don't care if it's technically in Merseyside |
