i am in such a mess as april last yr he had an inpaction of the lower colong, and this yr has only just started and this.
i am worried sick i know hes a tough cookie but my heart is broken.

my poor old man i do think sometimes hes geting old so these things are likely to happen but when i see him galloping, rearing and bucking around i cant help to think hes 6! The vet said hes in fabulious condistion for 19.

My mare has done both her front Check Ligaments (Six Months apart)with treatment she is back in full work.

It is not the end of the world. With each we think it was done in the mud.

Along with shock wave treatment I used a combination of homeopathic treatment.Pm me if you want to know what I used
.

How awful!

However, dont give up hope. My lad tore his check ligament at the age of 19 and he came back to work. He had about 2 months box rest & then gentle walking out in hand & turnout. We had ultrasound therapy as well as using magnetic boots, and this seemed to work well. You could also use an MSM-type supplement that will support the healing of the ligament fibres.
Hope all goes well with your boy.

Three years ago my sainted Czak ''fell over'' in his stable , yes he is a pratt at times . Anyway he'd damaged his check ligament . I was lucky as he was not unsound but anyway he had a few weeks off and then concentrated on hacking for that winter and he has been fine ever since now doing all his dressage tricks and learning a 'version ' of piaffe.Hope your boy soon bounces back .

Don't worry, 19 is not old. My old boy did a tendon at 27 and the other a year or so later. For both he had a tendon split, rest, then limited turn out (no bombing around) walks in-hand then a gentle return to work. He was back in work by 6 months. Though we never went really full pelt again and no (proper) jumping after the 2nd. Years earlier he did a check-ligamant -just tweaked at a team chase- and I just went steadily for a bit, kept an eagle eye on it and was careful. He team chased again until he was 23.

Good luck.

THANKS EVERYONE! you have made me feel better.

well vet said to cold hose it for 20mins 3times aday, this morning he was still lame, and this afternoon and eve when i went to do it he is only slightly lame.
when he did it i think it was just before i brought him in because marcs mum said 5mins before i went out to get the horses in he was galloping round with the others fine....

i had rach (marcs sister) come up to see him today as her horse tore her check ligament and she said he doesnt think it is as bad as when rhiannaon did hers as its not as swollen.

he made me laugh as he has a habbit of kick his stable door and when i was mucking him out, he was loose and kept kicking the door so i turned round and there he was wacking it away with his bad leg TUT TUT!! i said "SO... cant be hurting that bad then?" and he looked at me and lifted his leg as to say "erm....? OUCH!"

well truth well tell when i he has his scan on monday so i will keep you all posted on it

thanks again all
