In the last few weeks my mare seems to think its funny to grab the noseband of her headcollar in her mouth when I go to put it on. She's always been great to catch so no problems there. I just don't get why she suddenly thinks its ok to eat her headcollar! Once its on she's fine. Any ideas?

Mine also seem to do this, especially this time of year when they are feeling very well in themselves! They seem to particuarlaly like the bit with the leadrope clip. No idea why but it does seem to be mainly the geldings.

Interesting that you say they're feeling very well in themselves Zaminda 1, our youngster has just started 'playing-up'. She's cantering over and letting out a couple of kicks as she flies by, and when leading in; lots of little 'hops' sort of mini rears - she's always been very calm and sensible, so I'm a bit concerned that she may be getting a bit 'big-for-her-boots'. I have to add she's only doing this with the OH and a 13 yr old helper I have, so I haven't witnessed it, but it is an unwelcome development. I've cut out the conditioning cubes!! |

Two of my friends horses do this, boy and girl:) they have up trying to stop it eventually and added a short piece of lead rope to the side of the nose piece, they now go for this and chew this which enables you to get the headcollar on, seems to work very well:) |

Both my boys do this! I've lost count of the number of leadropes I've been through! Very strange but they have always done it when I get them in, the older one seems to have taught the younger one! |

You mean this isn't normal?! Most of mine do it, and my first horse and her younger daughter used to chew any tack that went near them I don't bother about it (as long as they're not chewing anything that cost a fortune) but I know it does annoy some people |

I dont find it annoying I was just worried in case there was something wrong with her. She's only started doing it in the last few weeks and I've had her for 3 years! Will be getting her teeth done next week just to be on the safe side. She is due anyway. |
