I have acquired a beautiful 14.3hh chestnut mare 7 years, by Dedja des Forges x Faery Wand. I bought her as unrideable, but after I had her back and teeth seen to, we started riding her and so far she hasn't put a foot wrong. I would really like to try and track her history so that I know what she has done in the past and see if it gives me some idea about what to do with her in the future. Can anyone help? Thanks Dawn

Thanks for that, but I had already found the site, that's how I tracked her lineage, I actually put her name on. I think I need to know a little more about Arabs in general because none of it means very much to me, do you know how I find out what sort of Arab she is, or doesn't it matter. I keep reading about Crabbet Arabs, Egyptian etc and I don't know how to find out about her specifically. Although it gives names of the ancestory it doesn't really say anything about them. Am I trying to go into this a bit too deeply?? Maybe I should be satisfied that she is a well bred pure bred. |

Hi, knowledge is a good thing IMO. I find researching blood lines very interesting. ThEre are various books about the arab strains/families about. Just had a quick peek at the pedigree. Aswan was a straight egyptian, Judith Forbes wrote a very good book about those bloodlines.Mammona was an increadably famous mare for the USSR stud. The sire line is French race horses, going back to Poland. Your mare was bred , on all lines, to race. On a slightly different note, I know of several arabians of the dam line, particulaly the Faery line which are used in palomino breeding. |

Spasiba's tail female is first import Crabbet, and includes Bint Helwa the broken legged mare in her line. A lot of arabians go back to Rodania tail female, Spasiba doesnt, her Crabbet tail female is Bint Helwa, imported by the Blunts as one of the foundation stock, she was foaled in 1887.The Bint Helwa line died out at crabbet itself. |

Hi Dawn,
Spasiba was bred by Liz Harrington, now at Larkinglass stud. she is very well bred for the performance world, the Dam Faery Wand, bred some good racehorses: Parmants Clown, Wayward Faery & Wayward Twister. The sire Dedja des Forges was one I used a few times and has produced some nice endurance horses. I know Spasiba was entered at the 2003 Ascot Sales, but led out unsold and I am sure she did race a couple of times ( I will double check).
Best of luck with her, i am sure with her performance breeding, she will make a good Endurance horse. |

I have had a look and she did race twice in 2005, finishing 5th & 6th. |

Oh wow, thank you everyone for being so nice. I can't believe she has raced, she is so chilled. It seems she is a real find then, I can't believe they were going to sell her to a dealer!!! Why do people buy horses when they don't know what they are doing. They thought she couldn't be ridden and that she could only be a brood mare. I'm so glad I took a chance on her. Thanks for the information on Liz Harrington I will try and track her down via the Larkinglass stud, I'm sure she will be interested to know about one of her off-spring. Nag965 - do you know how much was bid before she came out unsold?? Not that it matters really but just interested. Thanks again to everyone you are all so helpful. It is really exciting to find out about her. |

Spasiba,(lot 165) as unbroken - went to 1600 not sold in the 2004 Ascot Sale, she went back home with Liz Harrington, she was back at the 2005 sale and sold for 950, she was in training then. I feel sure I've seen her somewhere on the lines after that date for sale, with someone who was riding her and she apeared to be schooling well. Might have even been on the AL horses for sale.
Wayward Twister was with an endurance family and I saw him out a few times and doing well Euston Park??, a realy flashy liver chestnut.
There's quite a bit of breeding info on the sales pages from ascot and I think the G.dam Faery Snow may have sold at the Gucci sale and is related to some other famous arabs from that line, (like Silver Faery). She was also placed in hand at the wessex spring show in 2007 or 8 with a Mrs C Edwards. When I saw her in 2004 & 5, at ascot she was a bit of a Strawberry Roan. Sue |

Hi I don't know who you bought her from but she was owned by C Edwards, and when I did a local showing class two years ago she was better behaved than my 12 year old.
She was for sale on AL last year and at that point still owned by the above.
As I say when I saw her the year before last I was very impressed by her, she didn't put a hoof wrong!! |

Thanks for that both of you. I have managed to get a phone number for C Edwards and might be able to get some more information from her I will try and call her tomorrow. I don't understand why she ended up the way she did. She is going really well now and I am determined to find the right home for her |

Hi, Liz Harrington now has a stud in Dorset, she moved from Conkwell a few years ago. She was linked with Paul Keane who was traing, but he has gone back to Ireland. I think their yard is in Motcombe. Hope this helps Sally |
