My mare gets really bad snow stilts. It builds up into solid ice and doesn't come out on its own. I put her out for 10 mins yesterday and she nearly fell over. As I dont want her breaking her legs, I have 2 options. Keep her in or find something that will stop the build up. Nothing has worked so far. Luckily she doesn't mind being in.What would you guys do? It would worry me sick to put her out as things are.

Have you tried putting hoof oil or something similar on her soles as I have found this stops the ice sticking and no more build up

No shoes and loads and loads of vaseline under their feet usually does the trick

She is shod in front. I've tried hoof oil, vasaline and vasaline mixed with salt. It still balls up! Going to try spray cooking oil tomorrow. That was suggested to me.

Yep, vegetable oil normally works! Also seen a cracking tip on here from Mrs Vlacq, who recommended spraying soles with furniture polish.
