Hi all. Been struggling to keep weight on the oldies and a friend of mine asked if I'd tried Midds..apparently its the innards of oats/barley with a really high protein content? Antone fed it and is it something to consider?
Have never fed it so can't comment, but do look it up as 'Wheatfeed' on google. I work at an Agricultural Merchants and we supply it in bulk to farmers.
Thank you! Googled it and it seems to be mostly used in cattle but maybe go to the place that sells it and see what they reckon as worried too much protein could lead to the dreaded L word
you can use soya bean meal which is 45% protein test done indicated no ill effect from feeding this a cupful added to your feed will put on weight pretty quick or try soya oil...again another good way of adding weight to horses and condition too
Hi Mittens I used to feed middlings which an old pig farmer recommended for weight gain and it worked well for our little Dartmoor pony usually comes in a very large sack so lasts a good time and they love it looks just like bran would and have recommended it in the past, just not sure you can source it here in France
I think this is an interesting rticle. Table 2 gives protein and mineral values etc. I am wondering if Midds is just another name for bran? it is a wheat by-product with a similar profile. Basically high in protein, selenium, phosphorus etc, low in calcium and starch.
