Hi everyone. Very sad to read the recent events happening on this site:( and i do truely understand why everyone is so upset. But to play devils advocate for a moment. (and please dont shoot me down in flames ) i think we can all identify times when the posts have been somewhat attacking on specific peoples intents, motives and personalities, and this has to be stopped so i fully understand why admin have taken a step towards doing this. How many times have we seen recently people stating things like, "no bad comments please" and "dont shoot me down in flames" and those comments alone prove that things have got out of hand, as for Rui, dont shoot the messenger, he obviously has full support of Paula, and i am sure this is something they have discussed at length and i am also sure that he has been instructed to have a no tolerance attitude. However this said i think admin need to accept that they have managed this exceptionally badly and not only managed the initial intro of rui badly but seem to be continuing along the same vein and refusing to accept they have made some errors in judgement, people dont accept change easily and censorship will and does always invoke a reaction, a warning before implementing changes would have, in hind sight, been a good idea. I assume this is actually a business that makes someone some pennies, and if i am correct in that assumption, then us members are actually your customers, and as such should be treated with the respect that all customers deserve. Bigger business than this have crashed and burned from bad management decisions, even if made for the right reasons. A good company recognises mistakes and rectifys them. Please also be careful what you add to your filters, the word private, by its very definition implies that these are not monitored or edited (regardless of filters ) you have allowed people to email about stallions and services, so you have set a standard, so to disallow a link to another site is actually not cricket:) come on everyone, let the dust settle.

Sarah, I do acknowledge I should have handled the situation differently last Friday. Even while moderating messages, you can always do it with more carefully worded sentences, so that the person whose message is being moderated doesn't feel so strong about it.

Things did escalate and it's hard to maintain a cool head in the heat of an argument. I'm also latin, so that makes it even harder. I'm am sorry for that.

Rui, being Latin isn't an excuse, I'm a natural red head, known for fiery temperaments but I HAD never been rude on line, an apology should be unequivocal, not qualifed.

Moderators sit back and watch, they DO NOT become embroiled in discussions, you could learn from Pat and Lynda. A step back from posting might calm things down, such a shame as this site was the best thing since sliced bred!

BTW on here WOMEN RULE, OK?

Pat,

I'm not using my latin background as an excuse. Things happen, even if in hindsight we wish they would not. I don't know that many people that in the heat of a discussion do not do things that, once the discussion is over, they wish they didn't (yeah, not many of us are perfect as Gerri or Sarah).

I accept your opinion on moderating style as another opinion. I do agree moderators shouldn't become the problem, but that can't always be avoidable.
Paula clearly thinks that moderation needs to be more active and I plan to help her do that. I do think I'm an experienced moderator (on my "own" forum I have 25,000 posts over 7 years and have moderated it for at least 5 years - and I help in other forums too), but this is the first forum where women are a big majority. I'm sure that cannot be very bad , but I'll try and fit in.

I don't mind women ruling here, but there are some things that will have to change. Paula is just fed up with bickering among members and we will ensure that is minimized to the least possible.

I think everyone needs to back off a bit. I've clearly tried to do that and don't plan to fuel any heated discussions but, as they say, it takes two to tango.

Im very sad too.....its all very upsetting and unecessary.
I wasnt around on Friday evening and havn`t posted much recently as was fed up of nastiness towards anyone asking for help.

We can all be outspoken at times but this usually resolves itself and we kiss and make up.....how sad if this doesnt happen this time.

Through AL I have made some wonderful friends....although most dont post here anymore due to the politics.
We have laughed and cried together on here, we have cheered each other on, we have helped countless animals find new homes, we have followed each others drama`s......and I feel very sad that this may come to an end.
Without this site many of us would not have found their beloved horses, met good friends, laughed till we weeeeed, cried at each others losses.Laughed when one of us got sent to the naughty step for overstepping the mark.

I have joined the other group......as I am a member of many groups, BUT AL is where my kindred spirits are, where I go everyday to follow the stories, tragedies and joys of others.I will post on the other site.....perhaps about things that would be moderated out here. But also because some of my friends are there.
I was not forced to join....I was not stolen away, I chose to join.

There is talk of legal action etc......WHY? How very sad.

Paula has provided this site to us free of charge, and I for one thank her for that, without this site my life would be poorer in many ways, try to see it from her point of view.

Really Sad

Bridie there are still lots of lovely people here, so hope you will still post and join in and a resposible admin has a job to do and people should realise its not easy for them either, I joined last night and then thought about it, I really don't want to follow like a sheep and especially where perhaps people Can get away with insulting each other for me thats not what I am looking for, I love AL and I like everyone else needs to be kept in line at times, Admin may have been wrong I don't know all I know is that they have a very hard job and at times I can imagine an unpleasant job, and like the rest of us they are human and its a sad world if people cannot accept apologies graciously and I for one don't want to follow people that think that they are just too good to accept that people make mistakes occassionally and are not forgiving. I really really look forward to hearing your news and thoughts on AL and will be very sad if you feel you don't want to, so please please keep your posts coming. x Gerri
