Between the slaughter of cattle, sheep etc, and horses. Is it because we don't eat horses in this country? I can't understand why people get so het up about the "meat man", but then go off and eat a steak pie. Don't all animals have the basic survival insinct? and so, "feelings" I am genuinley interested to hear any replies. I am not a veggie, but I don't eat meat ( It makes me violently sick). I also don't like to see horses going to the meat man, but it also upsets me to see cattle etc of to the slaughter.

I dont tend to differentiate...an animal is an animal..doesnt matter if its equine, bovine or ovine! Hence why i'm veggie and will remain so! Cant stand the thought of any animal suffering for my pleasure I think this is a highly emotive topic, and there will always be views both for and against the slaughter of animals for food. Everyone is different, but personally, I will never go back to eating meat, or buying products that have been tested on animals..but thats a whole other topic!

The thought of any animal being transported en masse to slaughter appalls me. I have been veggie for 23 years. Cows, sheep, horses, dogs, chickens, humans, what's the difference? yes, i admit the thought of a dog or a horse or a child suffering feels worse because of my personal emotional attachment to each of these species, but really it's all the same. When you look at some of the human atrocities in the world today, how can we ever respect another species when we obviously have no respect for our own (in collective terms anyway). Sad world. |

Personally i dont like to think of anything going to the meat man. Its not a nice process, and all animals are treated terribly, i watched horrible program some years ago now on pigs and how they were treated and i refused to eat pig for the next two years (smell of bacon got the better of me eventually ) i dont like to think of horses going this way, as they have been a loyal partner to someone for years and it is an unfeeling, undignified way to spend there last moments on this planet, it probably is because we class them as pets rather than meat, but for me i just think about how frightened they must be and i personally think we should make sure our palls are given a peaceful end. |

There is no difference. Full stop. No way would I eat the flesh of any animal, and I live my life around the belief that no animal should suffer for me. |

Okay, Here goes... Cattle and sheep have been bred specifically for food, in the wild they have no to little ability to survive preditors. Hence we no longer see herds of free roaming cattle and sheep in the wild. In terms of the evolution ladder... cattle and sheep ARE already extinct. A bit like the chicken bred specifically for meat I suppose? Dont get me wrong, I have crossed paths with cattle and sheep that I am very fond of eg: hand reared animals that are so humanised, that I feel I couldn't bring myself to slaughter them for meat. They say:'Once you've given them a name...'! I think it's inevitable that horses do 'go to the meat man', but I certainly do not understand the reason for live transport. They sould be despatched 'on site' and carcasses transported onwards. Surely it makes better economical and welfare sense? Hey, how about the cats and dogs in the Far East? Huh?! :-( T x |
