OMG, so glad to hear you're OK!!! What an awful and traumatic thing to happen I agree, I think something else should be used instead of those posts. My filly was out with someone elses naughty pony, who didnt want to be out anymore, so ran at the electric fencing, managed to get through unharmed but sent one of the posts flying (not a clue how) and scratched my fillys shoulder. She had a turn out rug on luckily but the hole was on the chest area, so would have hated to think what would have happened if she didnt have in on

As someone who is good at collecting men who suffer freak accidents, I'm really pleased to hear you got checked out, despite it seeming a comparatively minor swelling - and that as a result it isn't as bad as it might have been! Best wishes for a speedy recovery
With regard to plastic electric fence posts breaking, though, be reassured, folks - not all of them do! I've been using Rutland Electric posts for 25 years, I still have many of my original ones, and though some have gone banana-shaped (due to being used at the corners, LOL!), the only breaks have been occasional ones to the lugs that hold the fencing in place. So I would not hesitate in recommending them.
HOWEVER, some b*gger on a previous yard took some of my *good* posts and swapped them for her Gallagher ones. BEWARE - Gallagher posts are brittle and *do* snap off - leaving nasty sharp ends. During a cold spell they are an absolute menace - during the frosty/snowy weather a few years back while we were on that particular yard, I found that just the pressure of the wind on the tape was enough to snap those posts...not good when you have no other fencing as was the situation there, to say nothing of the jagged ends that were left!
The OH now insists that we have NOTHING but Rutland equipment on our fences (and no, he *doesn't* work for them).

Hi Viv, Just caught up with this thread. You really must have had a very nasty shock!!!We always try to use wooden stakes now as those plastic ones are VERY dangerous, for both horses and humans. At least we have got a brilliant hospital at Exeter, they really are on the ball arent they. They were brill when Amanda had her accident as well.Hope you are feeling better today and give the horses a miss for a couple of days! jane and Amanda xx |

My goodness, you sound like you have had a lucky escape, heres hoping for a speedy and and pain free recovery. With regards to fencing, i know of horrible freak accidents with all types, but certainly quite frightening what can happen. |
