They don't like going out to play, they just hover at the gate waiting for me. All three of them much prefer to be in, are any of yours like this?

When it gets really cold ours do this too. Yesterday they were at the gate waiting for me however today was a different story! I had to walk across the 20acres or so just to catch them! |

Jack is the opposite - he would rather be OUT and spent all last night walking round and round and round his stable, mixing poo is with bedding and spreading it all over the stable, and I've had to take the whole lot out this morning
All because he's used to being OUT with the door open.
If he wants to so much, he can go OUT, fireworks be blowed!
Actually, I think he quite likes the fireworks - they've never worried him anyway. Just be being cautious. |

I think you are lucky like me. My mare will canter across the field when she sees me, whatever time of day and want to come in and spend time with me. She will also be waiting at the gate if I'm a bit late. I tie her outside her stable when I'm mucking out and she wants to go into it when I finish. She is also happy to see me in the morning and wants to go out and play with her friends. Yours may be playing with their friends when you are not about, so you don't notice it. They may be like Hallie and like spending time with you. |

All ours come to call. We are currently on 13 and I would never dream of walking across the field for any of them. I call, they come.
However, now it is rubbish and wet and cold, they rarely get out in the fields. The land is far too wet adn they just stand sulking at the gate watching me busy on the yard- pestering me to see if the jobs are finished! They hate it. Instead we have a half manage size bark covered turn out area where they go out inpairs or alone while I do their jobs, and they still moan about that!
If I really want them to exercise I have to use the manage as it is huge (60x40) and surfaced with rubber and silisand so nice for them to run about on, but as it is so exposed they get cold so ready for in after 10 minutes!
[:PWorst one is Jalmood, our stallion. If you try and turn him out when it is wet or windy he stands there screaming at you as if you have tortured him! He much prefers to stay inside, he has a huge stable, and play with his ball!
So think I can safely say all ours prefer to be in at this time of year. And with their PJ's on thankyou very much! Mind you, we do live on the moors!!

Ours definitely prefer to be in at this time of year. Some of ours have been out all summer 24 x 7 and they just looked miserable over the last few weeks, particularly because it has been so wet this year. Mud fever and rain scald have affected quite a few of them this year and we normally have few problems with either. Now they are in with the others, they all look and act like happy bunnies. They get to go out into the turnout in friendship groups but, after about ten minutes of flying around, they are looking wistfully at us to be allowed back in again. Now that we have a few days of dry and frosty weather, perhaps things will dry up a little and they might be happier to be out for longer. |

Yep, definitely the odd bunch here Mr. Poo pretends he has a cough when it's rubbish weather outside (silly ar*e!!!). He tries to hide in his stable when I grab his turnout rug - he puts his head in the corner, if he can't see me then I can't see him. The rest of the 'crew' are more than happy to go out, whatever the weather, but they do 'yell' when they've had enough.

Crystal really couldn't care less....but she likes her comforts, and defnitely likes being inside all tucked up for winter, in Summer, I won't see her for dust, she'll be off down the field and I won't bring her in(barring accidents) till November 1st.
Tasey, not too sure about yet, but she ain't too keen on getting her feet muddy! Really funny to see her literally bend her body round a puddle....had YO's OH in hysterics last week! God knows what will happen if we have to go on a muddy showground...going to be funny!!!!

Another one here. Very often I can feel him heave a sigh of relief when his stable rug goes on and he knows he's in to stay. Thats of course after he has tried to hide against the wall of his stable pretending he isnt there. |

Mine are happy to do whatever, as long as they are together and have something to munch on... if they are in they always whinny when the see me, if they are out they always run up to me. They always come to call too... Easy boys - under the thumb and controlled by their tummies!! :) |

Mine all love being out, they don't care what the weather is doing, my colt especially hates to be left in he spreads poo around and makes a mess, none of them even use the field shelter, they just graze whatever! |

My mare hates the rain and wind. If the weather is bad she is more than happy to stay in. I have led her towards the field when its bad and she will stop and turn round to look at her stable then not move unless we are going back towards it. Total fair weather mare. |

My mare and filly are wintering out for the first time this year (3 horses and only 2 stables!). But they have an 8 acre field, with natural shelter and lots of grass, I live where they are, and go and give them carrots twice a day when checking them. Its also very convenient at this time of year, as I was able to go down at 11.20 pm to check them on Saturday night with the fireworks, but they were oblivious, bless them! I bought some really pretty good rugs on ebay for £27 and £30 respectively (combo's) and so far they are pretty happy. I may have to double rug them, but when I have gone down so far, they have been far less concerned about the weather, than if I had the carrots with me!
