A few weeks back I postd about two Arabian mares in need of help. One a 24 year old advertised for £350 as the owner no longer had a use for her, the other a 5 year old in foal for sale for £400 due her owner hitting tough times. I know a lot of you were concerned for their future (before Admin deleted the thread) so I just wanted to update you to let you know they are both safe with secure futures. The oldie in a sanctuary, and the younger goes to a new loving owner this week.

Ah, not just me, a lot of teamwork. Very tricky I think when we see these sort of ads. I have no connection to the owners at all, but I couldn't bear to think of where these girls might end up. So I just put the details on a few sites that would allow it, and the right people saw them. I went to view the young mare for my friend who brought her, and she was so lovely and kind. Her owner was so relieved to know that she would be safe, it just makes it all worthwhile. We can't help them all, but it's wonderful to be able to get to some of them. |

That is really lovely to hear. Thank you for sharing with us. There are all these horrible articles (all over the world) of people unable to continue to keep their horses. I always seem to think that I must therefore rescue anything I can - and so obviously Shouldnt keep reading the articles. But the truth is, there are thousands of people out there able and willing to give these horses a lovely new home. Sometimes, finding out about them in time is the real difficulty. I know we can't ensure every horse is rescued, re-homed, but to know 2 have been, is wonderful news. Sadly my American friends are telling me dreadfully sad tales of anyone with a horse trailer, finding random horses tied to their trailors (sometimes with notes attached to them) when they get back from riding out, or one couple that stopped with an empty trailor at a feedstore, and came out to find 2 horses loaded up in it. It's unbelievable times that we are living in, and so many people are really struggling financially. Anyway - sorry for my ramblings. I just find it so sad - and I am SO PLEASED this had a happy ending. |

Well done all involved in helping these mares, so nice to hear that they have found homes. I heard only yesterday that some rescue centres are snowed under with horses that owners can no longer keep. Just wish I could win the lottery and help them, sigh.

Well done and glad this one had a happy ending.
Nicki thats how we acquired the shetties a few years ago, found them tied to the gate with a note asking for them to be looked after as the family had fallen on hard times and could no longer afford to keep them, they have been her 10 years now, mother and daughter, I wish we knew who they had belonged to as k we would have stil gladly taken them in but would have loved the owners to keep in touch. |

Mega well done for finding homes for these horses, they're very lucky to have had you on their side
I do think it;s a bit shocking though selling a 24yr old horse, If it were mine I think I'd rather have put her to sleep then risk her ending up on a meat wagon, which could easily have happened
Its the hardest decision, but a responsibility we take on the minute we buy a horse.
Well done again though |

I agree with all the comments posted but....and shoot me down for this...I was a single mum whos partner left when the baby was 7months old, having to pay the mortgage and work all the hours I could whilst still paying livery for my old mare who I could no longer ride BUT getting rid of her didnt enter my head.I lived on toast for about a year and old minnie stayed with me til she died at 32.....Now I say this not as a saint but as a devoted horse owner who gave back to her mare what she deserved...This should be the rule and not the exception.Sorry to rant but it makes me Mad to hear of all these poor oldies being disposed of just because. |
