Hi Has anyone ever used these type of treads? I have read on another forum about people using them and wondered what you use yours for?
Thank You Charlotte x

If you mean slanted stirrup treads, then yes, I use them. I have a problem with weak ankles and they help keep my leg in the correct position, only problem now is that if I ride anyone elses horse and they don't have these it feels most odd! I know loads of others who use them and find them really good |

Ah thats interesting as i was looking at them but have only found them in white so far. Do they come in black?
Ive been having alot of ankle probs and have found it easy to use the old style english stirrups and treads as opposed to the fillis irons as the older ones are kind of curved.
With the slanted ones is it thick side on the outside and thin side to the horse? |

ive never tried them, but i did try the sprenger bendy stirrups which are supposed to take the pressure off your ankles, knees and hips but because ive got manky legs i ended up shearing off a piece of bone from my left knee joint and had to have an operation to remove the piece of bone! so i wont be trying them again, ever! and i didnt even fall off!!! (this can be verified by my OH as he was cycling behind us) so dont try bendy stirrups if you have manky knees! maybe the slanted treads are a better (and cheaper) option, but i know a lot of people who swear by the sprenger bendy irons for problem ankles. i have slanted treads. my instructor uses slanted treads. her instructor uses slanted treads. we all use them for differing reasons. i have them on my slim jim as it helps angle my leg round him more. |

We have a really old pair of SS irons with the slanted tread and offset slot for stirrup leather... makes you think when you've got to put your saddle back together after a strip down clean but mum and I both love them (often ise them on saddles for judge rides ). They just help guide your leg into a neat secure position. Have seen modern ones - interested to read reviews from you guys! |

I must admit to not liking them! They feel most odd! I have come across them a number of times when I have been judging, most disconcerting whilst on a strange horse! |

I have the kk sprenger knife edge irons. the ones with the off set stirrup hole. Used to use them the wrong way around, with the shorter side to the outside and that was comfortable. I guess that would be the same as a wedge tread? Told by an instructor that was incorrect and we changed it, it feels quite wierd now, and to my simple mind, a lower outside edge would help your leg remain in contact but put extra strain on the ankles?? Does anyone know if my instructor was correct? |
