The poor boy...Ive seen loads of injuries through barbed wire.We have it at our yard but inside of it we have electric fencing as it would cost too much for post and rails but its the best our yard owner can do |

poor thing!! I hate barbed wire heard too many horror stories. Why use it when electric tape is just as cheap. I know not all can afford post and rail like myself but il never put barbed wire up. |

Oh Dear :-( Poor little chap.
Agree, barbed wire is awful stuff but we also have it on the inside of electric tape. If money were no object I'd have seperate paddocks for the horses and cows, however we rotate the grazing and the cows (+ bull) have no respect for post and rail fencing :( |

Precious my mare and foal were turned out in a paddock by the old yard owner, where I specifically said that I did not want them to be. Obviously now, they have been moved from that yard. We had, however, kept our horses there for about 7 years previously with no incidents |

Hi all. Poor chap, I have seen some bad barbed wire wounds and thats about the worst!
On the other hand, About 5 years ago my gelding had an accident with a post and rail fence and I was sure he was going to die!!
I will post some pictures shortly. Any fence can be a potential hazard!!

Poor little baby . Hasn't he grown up nicely though
I removed any barb wire before I got Jack. It gives me nightmares.
We have a variety of 'fencing', including some dry stone walls. You'd think they'd be relatively ok - but oh no, Jack has climbed/fallen over/through one (cue staples) and fallen against another (I think that was what he did). Both pretty messy.
There are hazards with every type of fencing, sadly.

Oh poor baby
Similar thing happened to my gelding when he was 2 - he rolled over the top of a barbed wire fence where I used to keep him at livery. He was being chased by another horse at the time Worse still it was one of mine . He got off lightly (although I didn't think it at the time) compared to this poor baby.
Lovely boy by the way, fantastic colour |

Poor boy, that looks so sore i`m afraid youngsters and barbed wire are not a good combination , i personally hate the stuff, it is really meant for cattle fencing as they have tougher skin. Unfortunately some places still use it, once you have seen what this vile stuff can do to the flesh of a horse you would never put one near it! |

I detest barbed wire.. Have seen terrible incidents with it but also as said before saw the worse injuries when friends horse decided to attempt jumping over the post and rail fencing and did not clear it!! anothers attempted clearing a five bar gate and did not clear it... I have elec fencing the wire type again not my choice or others on here.... but to go around 11 acres and split into paddocks its what we can afford and touch wood horses have been fine and respected it for past 5 years..

Yes nutter me too, hedges and electric fences...the other thing about barbed wire is the damage it does to rugs!!! it is definately not the cheap option. |
