Hello who are you
Wow what a big place it is out here
Never thought we would see her walk let alone trot
Just can't quite........
Rose is going from strength to strength all be it very slowly, she is not out of the woods yet but her chances of becoming a normal and well horse grow with each day, she is the first orphan foal we have had to deal with and the fact she was a dummy foal (due to oxygen starvation) has made the whole process a real learning curve, she is now on 30 fluid ounces of formula milk every 90 min's we have tried goats milk but she had a bad reaction and went down hill fast so it's back to powdered milk , this bit of good weather has been a God send meaning she can get out for a couple of hours with a bit of sun on her back a great tonic for us as well nothing better than snoozing under a tree in the sun watching her explore this big world and catching up on a bit of sleep Thank's to all of you for your support and kind words it has been a real comfort

What a beautiful baby, and Rose is a very appropriate name for her... so refined and elegant. The hard work of rearing an orphan foal does have its `up` side. Rose will implicitly trust her human friends and will not have to face the stress of weaning. You have certainly done an excellent job, as, regardless of the birthing trauma, she looks totally OK and is perfectly formed.
Equine formula milk powder is very expensive but can recommend Ewes Milk Powder, as its formulation is very near that of Mares Milk.
Our Anglo orphan (who made 16.00hh) was costing nearly £40 per week in mares milk replacer, by the time he was 4 weeks old (36 pints a day) and that was in 1984. So, put him on Ewes Milk replacement powder, which halved the cost. He never looked back and was Reserve Male Anglo/PBA Champion at the North Staffs AHS Show in 1985, and is still going strong at 23years, with his long term owner. Our second Orphan who`s Mom died when he was seventeen days old, four years ago, was put on Ewes Milk Replacer Powder, and successfully bucket fed, no problem
Carry of enjoying your very special and precious little lady. Out of great sorrow, you now have a beautiful baby who I am sure is filling you life with happiness, watching her make progress and exploring her new world.

She is just so beautiful, and it's lovely to have updates on her progress. You have done so well it's a tonic to follow this link and see the love people are prepared to give to their horses, we certainly all need this type of story to give us all a boost. Than you for sharing with us, and good luck in the future.

well done..l know how hard this is to do and she is looking good
l too used 'lamb lap' as it was very costly to keep buying the mares milk replacer...worked very well both foals grown up now and off doing there horsey things...
