As most of you know we tragically lost one of our favourite mares last year in a horrible accident. Well, yes it is still on going nearly a year later.
She was in foal by 7mths so we lost the foal too. The mare was dark steel gray by a black stallion out of a mare we used to own who was dapple gey. The foal's sire was our own Roe Jalmood- black for those of you who don't know him. (Pictured below first 3)
We have an insurance claim against the land owner and they have agreed a value on the mare but are undecided about the foal.
Our solicitor thinks it may help to have some information from other breeders/buyers so our question is this please:
Have any of you sold/ bought a foal in utero and if so would you be prepared to PM me with an idea of value.
This is to help the so called professional valuer who claims to have a knowledge of Arabs and has this week compared the valuation of an Arab foal to an auction of Welsh ponies he attended last week!! (Nothing against Welshies- got one here for my daughter but you don't really get the same mass Arab foal auctions do you??? Thankfully!!!)
The solicitor hopes this will help the valuer make a decision by, comparing weaned foal prices with an in utero guide based on the fact he can't be certain the foal would have been born alive.
Any help would be massively appreciated and all details passed to me be would be in the strictest confidence.
Thanks all for your support- yet again in this matter!!!!

I had my foal insured for 30 days before and 30 days after foaling as an addition to the mares insurance, then the foal can be insured on its own
My insurance company said that it would be the cost of the stud fee, so you need to calculate how much the stallion's stud fee would be,then that is the cost of the foal in uterus.

Adverts for mares for sale with a "we will have the foal back" and two prices , with or without the in utero foal, seem to put the foal value about 25 /30 percent of the mare.
Personally I would never enter into that sort of agreement, but an indication of what others expect. |

Thnaks everybody for all your help and comments. I will pass them on to our solicitor.
The stupid thing about all this is that we were insured with a company I shan't name here, for the horses. After the accident we contacted them and they said it was a 3rd party liability case so to contact our landlord. We have done this independantly of them- they were not interested. Our solicitor wrote to our landlord- who has given us full support in this as he was as shocked as us, and we have a good relationahip with him. He passed the letter onto his insurance to deal with who agreed we had a valid claim.
Yes, you guessed it!! He is insured with the same company!!!!!!!
We are not any longer!!!!! Why can't life be simple sometimes??? |
