Considering how backward he was when he arrived, and how many brick walls he'd put up in the school, he's finally getting the hang of it and he really tried hard:
It's only taken four years  
If anyone gets a chance, I can thoroughly recommend lessons with Andrew Day. He was most complimentary about our ayrabs too.

Spider's story...
Way back in Feb 2004 Suneanarab on here posted asking if anyone could help the stallion Ffortune as he had been abandoned on their yard and countless attempts to get the "owners" to take their horse back had resulted in nothing (Spud was part of a court case that Suneanarab won). The "owners" said that they would have him destroyed  as he was no good to them so Suneanarab sent them a solicitors letter informing them that the horse would be rehomed.
We were told he had an allergy that comes up like fly bites that come and go on his barrel. He weaved very badly due to how he was kept (before going to antonia's yard) as a youngster as he was never turned out! He was very spoilt when it comes to manners, but had got so much better with Suneanarab that he was walked out in a halter and handled by their oldest son. He had a wonderful nature but needed careful handling and he would be better off being gelded and living out. And he certainly did not need putting down as the "owners" said they would do as he had the prospect of a long life and there was no reason why he couldn't be a pleasure horse or maybe do endurance.
So, I got in touch with Suneanarab and went to see him and Esther and I were in love with him from the moment we laid eyes on him. We agreed that he would come to us on long term permanent loan and we'd see how we went. He was then gelded and came to us where he was turned out 24/7/365 to learn to be a horse with our other 5.
When we first took him in the school he completely shut down and put up wall after wall after wall so we thought sod it and took him out and about round the local fields and bridleway networks doing "formal" schooling in little 2 minute chunks asking him to side pass around cars, to bend and flex and use his backside to propel himself forwards rather than pull himself along on his forehand with his ears in my teeth and to teach him that he was allowed to go forwards, he was allowed to use himself, to express himself as a horse and enjoy what he was being asked to do. He learnt to be a horse, went out with Joe, Oliver and Toby pone full time and went out on the endurance scene with his uncle H and loved every minute of it. Two years later Suneanarab agreed to us buying him. He's got a home for life with us and he's my pal, my buddy, my little star, I worship the ground he walks on LOL.
He's the ultimate Diva and everyone loves him - he gets loads of attention from the neighbours around the fields with lots of carrots, apples and cuddles from his adoring public - he also loves the endurance ride photographer and will make a beeline for him when at endurance rides to go and ask if he's got his best side darling, he's learnt that he can go forwards and he can enjoy his little self even if sometimes we do occasionally have to have a slight discussion about just what speed he's decided he's going and the fact that mummy does have a brake system in place which really should be listened to once in a while.

Hi Kerry
Spider looks fabulous! For those who don't know I have his half brother Mustique Moniet(far right in the sig pic being ridden by my 8yo god daughter who he adores). I've often said that if I could only engage Mustique's brain as much as his hocks he'd make a fab dressage horse - but schooling is limited to short chunks - typical Ffatal baby he gets bored going round in circles and can't see the point! I've started introducing some jumping into schooling sessions and we've gone up from about 10 mins max before the inevitable switch off to about half an hour! He's 12 now but to be fair was only really backed properly at 7. He loves endurance and is fiercely competitive out on the trail but do the same hack twice in one week and he's looking for ways to make life more interesting!
Where is Andrew based Kerry?
Just love the pink bridle!
PS Monte is out doing two BD elementary tests on Sunday - wish me luck!

Bev, Andrew's based in Nottingham, I think, but he travelled to a friend's yard in York where we all met up.
He had Spider sussed straight away. He said "The reason this horse hates the school is because there is no destination and he doesn't see the point". Whereas endurancing he gets to canter and eat and have minions - his favourite activities. |
