I am considering using this for the coming Winter and would be interested to know what people think of it...how much would you expect to pay for a bag and roughly how long should a bag last...I would normally use 2 bags of standard shavings per week so just trying to get a comparable idea.
Let me know your experience with this!!
Many thanks.

Hi I used to use this a few years back and as far as I can remember I put four or five bags down and then a probably half a bag a week but Shida was very clean and out all day plus she didnt ever lie down in her stable. I liked it at the time but have to say i'm now using shavings which I do prefer. The aquamax can be a bit dusty if you don't damp it down enough. Also if your horse does like to lie down then I think shavings are a nicer bed. Definately worth giving it a try though as a number of people at my yard still use it. |

I thought about changing to this, from Bedmax shavings, because I would like a smaller muck heap, but I didn't like the idea of it having to be dampened. I would worry that damp bedding would develop fungal spores, which are even more dangerous for horses than dust. I'm sticking with Bedmax. |

You damp it to expand it, it's like in little pellets and they then absorb all the wet and expand so the bed isn't actually damp if that makes sense. You're meant to mix the wee in but because Shida used to wee as soon as I turned her out and then out on a ride in the evening she quite often didn't over night so there was nothing to mix in so i'd need to use a watering can instead. |

I know you damp it to expand it, but I would have thought that is still "damp"---the water is in there with the wood fibre--- and would worry about spores. I also didn't like the instruction to mix in the urine---- amonia in the atmosphere and around hooves. |

Hi I have used Aquamax for about 4yrs now and find it brill. It clean, easy to muck out and I only use a bag a week per stable and mine are in all night and go out about 10am after being ridden.
It only needs to be dampened when you first start the bed to activate the pellets and then just take the poo out and then I only take the wet parts of the bed (wee) I dont actually mix the bed. Then once a week I add a bale but dont add any more water. I also love the smell as there is no wee smell.
My farrier is very happy with there feet.
Hope this helps.
