How long do they usually take? I've only claimed once before and they were fab I sent the forms on the Monday and had the cheque on the Friday. I know this is a lot more complicated but it seems to be dragging on and on. First of all the hospital didn't send the vets report when they sent the bill so that held things up (in fact still don't know for sure they've sent it now depsite asking them to let me know when it was faxed). Rang NFU last week to check they had received it and the girl that went to check the file said the file was missing which meant it was being worked on so should have meant they had received it. Still hadn't heard anything today and again was told file wasn't there but then she said the person who had been dealing with it has left so not sure who had it now! Hmmm don't like the sound of that so politely asked if she could perhaps find out who did have it now and just confirm it was being dealt with. She never rang me back. Have a nasty feeling it could have got lost in transition of person leaving!! Just want it all sorted now as until it is I don't feel like I can move on and i'm now feeling twitchy and want to go horse hunting.

obviously depending on correct information/speediness of all parties, it can take anything up to 3 to 6 months. |

Blimey that's seems like ages! They paid the first lot of vets bills straight away but my hospital bill was for £4650 so I didn't pay it myself because I wanted to know the vets report was dealt with as didn't want a delay between my credit card bill. Now have had more vets bills in which I will have to pay myself but until I know how much of the hospital bill they are paying won't know if they will pay some of the others if that makes sense! Not bothered about the money for Shida just want to know the bills are sorted although what money I get for her will go on vets bills anyway as I only insured her for £2000 which in hindsight was a little silly. Just always thought she'd be an old bird when she finally went so didn't seem much point in increasing cover. |

Hi Jo
I have had 2 claims with NFU resently one for my dog which is still ongoing.
I just get the vets to send the bills to the NFU and they pay out.
Keep at the insurance company they are slow sometimes.
If the vets bill you still have is to do with your horse leave it to the vets to get the money. |

Hi Jo, which NFU office is it, the one in Hemel Hempstead? They have been very quick at sending the cheques out for Tara's treatment on her knee last year and this. The cost for the laser treatment she had this year was about GBP1500. Although they did make a mistake with the last cheque for GBP1000 and sent it to me instead of to the vet's office. I thought I had a nice bonus in my account when my Dad paid it in then I spoke to Sue and she said the vet bill was still outstanding so my Dad had to send them a cheque from my account!
I hope you get it all sorted out soon!! |

Mine has just been settled, took about 2 and a half months although NFU have slightly cocked up who got what so now my surgeon is out of pocket... although the whole journey I kept the insurers up to date with what I had paid and what was outstanding. On phoning them to discuss it I got the 'well other claims are being dealt with...' so basically i am back in line and they take the full 10 days to look at their claims. Musnt grumble though as last year they were fab also and just thanking lucky stars they have paid up both times without any fuss. Good luck jp, keep on the phone till it gets sorted, hopefully it wont be too much longer now x |

If you get NFU to pay the vets it takes lots longer then if thye pay you direct.
My vets won't deal with insurance companies, they say the contract is with me.
They were very good with dealing with the AHT at newmarket - but the AHT are more patient then most!
I had 2 claims on going tratment for a year each and it took a few months for the last invoices to be cleared |

Guess i'm just going to have to keep chasing them then. They paid the first lot of bills really quickly. I guess i'll leave them with the hospital one and pay the rest of the vets one's myself and then fax them the invoices so we can work it all out after. Hey ho! |

Well got home today to find a letter from NFU to say they'd paid the bills up the limit and enclosing a cheque which means I now know what's left for me to pay. Hurrah I must say they are good because the initial hold up was down to the missing vets report. |
