So utterly depressing . K is refusing point blank to leave her stable now and this doesn't usually happen until November . At least it's quite warm here (Bucks) but the rain is unbelievable. Just drove home from the yard (in the dark ) and felt like I was driving through Bombay in the monsoon season ).

Our fields are fine If any one is desperate - have excellent grassy fields up for short term grass keep for horses. |

Well even I've gone soft tonight!! And I'm not one for pampering - mine doesn't usually need it - LOL
Got to the yard to find most of the others in, due to the persistant rain all last night and today. Went to fetch her out of the field, and she was tucked up and shaking. This is a horse that's never been rugged and is generally as tough as old boots. Although there's a huge hedge bordering one side of her paddock, the rain was driving the wrong way for it to provide any useful shelter. There were several VERY large puddles, and the rest was just totally waterlogged. As she's on restricted grazing I put hay in the field for her, but tonight it made more sense for her to have it in the stable instead of trampling it into mush!! She wasn't 100% happy, but at least she can have a few dry hours, and a comfortable lie down if she wants to.
I can't believe I've had to bring her in - it's only just September, for goodness sake! (OMG I'll be buying rugs next!)
They usually stay out 24/7 until just before Bonfire night. Just hope it eases off in the next couple of days - the YO was NOT happy. |

Cannot believe this weather. I had my friend booked to top the field today but it is pouring down and I do not want the field chewed up. Will have to try again. Three weeks ago he was coming but the tractor broke down. I do not think I shall every get it done this year. Hope the landlord understands. |

My fields are on the hillside so drain fairly well, but being lami paddocks they are fairly muddy in places Kira was not impressed walking through the mini lake in the entrance to get into the field |

We are doubly p**d off. last year we went through the sludge and mud and geneal mess of doing some much needed ditching and drainage, only to find today that the new ditch has acted in reverse.
The 10 - 12 foot deep river banks that usually have less than a foot of water are within inches of the top, and spilling over onto the fields.
the last couple of foot of the 10 -12 ft of depth has the tail edge of our ditch joining it, the river has backed up our ditches and acroos the drainage pipes and flooded an area about 10 times what we got before putting the drains in.
I BLAME THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY
the river is not moving even slightly downstream, and has not all day desite it being dry for most of the day. Further down they have some more flood defence work, i honestly beleive they are holding the water back to prevent the golf course from flooding, doesn't matter to them if the miniture ponies - including foal thats only up to my knees, are likely to drown so long as the bloody golfers are ok. |
