25yo tb gelding in rain sheet at night, others that live out 24/7 no rugs yet inc 18yo (chubby mare ) and 3 yo old colt - but he has his own house to use.
Others out naked during day incl 21 yo mare, in foal with huge colt at foot but in at night with deep beds, good grazing and serious ad-lib hay at night all un-rugged.
We are lucky enough to be in sunny Suffolk on sandy soil though so I count my blessings |

Mine is still naked and even in the morning is warm enough to touch, although most of the others on the yard are in lightweights. I think this is mainly because they are ridden - Eba is only 2 - and it obviously makes life easier.
That said, we are in Cambridge so the weather hasn't been too bad really, and even this evening when the sky went black (after some great sunshine) and it was blowing a gale, she didn't seem at all bothered - I think it is me who gets het up by the wind more than her.

Ours have had their lightweights on at night for a few weeks now and as Shah gets really cold and has just had a virus infection I swapped him over to his medium weight turnout rug two days ago. During the day it depends on the weather but it's cold now at night, below 10C, which is like winter.

Nothing yet. She's got ample grazing, plenty of shelter and is a very good do-er. Obviously, I keep an eye on her and rug according to how she's doing, but at the moment she's fine. |

Naked still.
The 2 boys that competed on Sunday had light weights on over night as it was raining hard but now they have no rugs on.
Will stay naked until it get really cold. They have plenty of good grass and good shelter both as hedges, field shelters or they can get into the stables.
I try to keep rugs off as long as possible.

Well, until last night I would have said two are in no rugs at all (and apart from last night, I hope they will be staying rugless for some time) and two are in LW rugs during the day, fleece lined rugs at night. But last night the two fleece lined rugs had to go on the normally unrugged ones, and the other two had to have MW rugs on as they were all cold I'm hoping last night was a one off but I have a feeling it'll be rugs out again on Friday.
Although I try to rug as little as I can with all mine, I have to admit it was quite satisfying to swap rugs round on some nice toasty Arabs this morning! |

I have a youngster out at grass naked and will be until about November i hope. And Aurran is just a complete wimp, hates being out, desperate to come in, starving hungry (our grass has all but gone now) and so he's in a wool rug at night and stabled and naked during the day out in the field, although if it's belting with rain he gets a rainsheet on. |

I just feel like it's the beginning of winter |

All of you whose horses are out naked - do they have access to shelter be it man made or natural?
The only reason I have Dennis in a lightweight is because I have no shelter and although he's very well covered (OK then, fat!) he can't get out of the wind or rain. |

My mare has a rainsheet on and is out 24/7 but I am actually considering bringing her in tonight for winter!!!! Wanted to leave her out until the end of September as going on hols for a week but dont think I will be able to.. will be feeling too guilty.. I must admit, every night over the past week I am been trying to decide what to do, medium turnout or light, in our out?? Think I will just bite the bullet this evening!!! |

my naked day time turnout youngster is on a very flat six acre with a high boundry hedge all the way round, no field shelter but it's better then nothing, he is lingering by the gate end of field every day at 5pm to come in to be tucked up |

Andre is out naked 24/7 still and is growing quite an impressive coat already He has plenty of shelter as he can just walk into a stable if he wants. He was nice and toasty when I felt his ears last night |

Hi Jordan, Try not to fret too much over it. I did and dont recommend it.
The weather is so changeable I think all you can do is see how she is coping. If she is warm and not bothered then she is fine. She would soon let you know if she wasnt.
I know mine is ok in his amigo l/w if it is showers or light rain. Anything more and the rug gets wet and he gets cold. I have been using a 40g rug for anything worse or 2 lightweights, just enough to keep the wet outside off his back so he doesnt get cold. He is on restricted grazing too so if its bad I give him some hay or grass.
Surprised at first to see lots of you starting your winter routine and then I realised mine was stood around waiting to come in last night before I brought him in so I dont think its far away. |

Just testing out a fab new lightweight sheet on my oldies. It really does what it says is complelety waterproof and stretchy and also breathable!! Alot of sheets/rugs say they are breathable but your horses still sweat in them. These are fab and just right for now when its muggy but wet. PM me for more info.

Rain Sheet in the day time & inbetweenys on a night
Although it's still warm in the day time, even on a wet day it has started to drop cold at night |

Both my boys are in middle weight rugs now, but that is purely as we have NO shelter of any kind and it's very exposed here. We are 1200ft above sea level and there is always a bitterly cold wind. There was frost on my car the other morning!
I won't start to stable them though until at least the middle - end of October. |

was a hint of sun this morning so l went to take off rugs....got looks of horror....so left them on...half an hour later it chucked it down..
usually it can blow a gale but if rugged mine seem to be oblivious to anything but food.... needs to be really bad or me standing in the shelter for them to bother...l usually end up wetter than them!

Mines got an Amigo Lite one on, but the last 2 nights he has stayed in Infact he WANTED to stay in. I bring him in every night for about half hour whilst we poo pick the fields and then he goes back out, but the last 2 nights he hasnt wanted to go out.
He will stay out tonight though becuase it is going to be dry.
And yes he is mesh, Yesterday he was shivering at about 6.00pm and I cant for the life of me understand people who keep their horses out when they see them shivering at least bring them in and dry them off and put a rug on them, unlike the girl who has her thoroughbred in the same field as mine. Poor bloody horse, then she wonders why it drops weight.

Well I have relented and put on Anubis' rain mac on. He's not cold but it is meant to pee it down here overnight (east sussex). As soon as its not raining so hard he can be out naked 24/7 as before. Cannot believe I am rugging in early September when I dont normally rug until November at the earliest!!! |

Neither of mine have rugs on yet. We are VERY lucky that we have loads of grass & the field has thick, high hedges all the way round which provide excellent shelter. If I thought mine were cold then they would be rugged, but they are fine at the moment. Lisa |
