Hi, Very straight forward topic.. does anyone know if the name 'Mystique' exsists yet in the UK for an arab stud?
I haven't found anything anywhere to say it does.. but i thought I would just triple check as I don't fancy copyrighting someone lol
I wouldn't be using that spelling anyway I'm considering 'Mysteeq', Partly because it's a lovely name (comes from mystical which I think perfectly decribes the arab horse) but also because one of my fillies has a similar name to it so she kind of inspired it

Hi Amy, check with the British Central Prefix Register. They can tell you who has anything near that name, even if it's not an Arab stud you can't use the same prefix. Ours is registered with A.H.S, W.P. and cob Soc. and N.P.S. as well as British Central Prefix Register, and sadly all requiring a fee. |

Hey, I've checked with the arab society and they don't keep the names of the studs, yeaa thats good sign if those web addresses arn't taken already! Does anyone have an opinion on which spelling looks the best? I'm careful with names you see (i've been through a whole list over the past few months even picking one which i turned out to hate so I changed it ) to make sure i really like it and i have chose this one for a reason because it relates to my own horses which is a plus.. But is that name heard around quite often or is it quite individual in other people's opinions?

Hi I haven't heard of a stud with this name and you are right - the AHS don't keep a record as I know that there are two Mistral studs in the North West, completely unrelated. However, as Mrs Vlacq points out you can register a name with the Central Prefix Register that administers the use of all UK stud prefixes if you want to.... Sally x |

There are many studs with the same name so you can use whatever name you chose, I know as someone else started using AA as their prefix well after I did, I got sick of getting calls about 'my' horses which of course they werent! So have now changed prefix entirely. I think in your case the more down to earth the spelling the classier it will look. |

Thanks for that Helen, so you think that the real spelling 'mystique' is more classy? It's good to get feedback before I settle on one because this time i'm going to stick to what I choose I'm awful for changing names.. I have had a puppy now for 3 weeks and she still hasn't got a pet name as I can't find the right one yet |

Thanks Sally and Mrs Vlacq, that's very helpful to know that it's possible to reserve a prefix! So, Trisha do you mean you prefer the normal spelling of it compared to the other? I was just trying to make it a bit different but if it's not necessary I probably prefer the normal too.. you don't think it's a common name do you? |

I haven't heard of a Mystique Arabians in the UK, but there are two in the US, one in Florida, which does little Arabian miniatures, and one in Indiana breeding Al Khamsa bloodlines. I dont think the US ones matter though do they? Could you still register a name for a stud in the UK even though its taken in the US?

Thanks everyone for your help Yeaa after thinking I still much prefer the 'mystique' spelling.. I don't think it matters because it is all the way in America does it? But also their website hasn't been updated since 2006 (I found that info somewhere on it) so maybe their not really doing it much now so possibly quite unlikely to meet them at any shows in the future?
But then the only other reservation I have is that if i used the web address mystique arabians.co.uk theirs will come up in the same search and it may become confusing..? (I don't mind about the minatures ponies one.. bless them I think they couldn't get confused easily!) Would like to hear more advice/opinions if anyone has one Amy x |
