racing post web site today:
ARO rescue low-rated thoroughbreds
Pete Scargill THE poorest performers on the Flat and over jumps may be spared the scrap heap after the Arabian Racing Organisation threw them a further lifeline by intimating that they may increase the number of races open to thoroughbreds.
Since the BHA allowed Flat horses rated 42 and below and jumpers rated 72 and less to run at ARO meetings in 2006, there has been a steady increase in thoroughbreds appearing at these race meetings.
With the BHA announcing last week that fewer opportunities would be available to the lowest rated horses, the ARO's racing secretary Sulekha Varma said on Sunday that her organisation would be open to finding more races for them.

As much as the TB races have enable arab racing to keeping going for past 2 years - just hope it doesnt mean another consecutive year of reduced number of purebred arab races/meetings.
wait and see with baited breath.
hope ARO continues to stand for arab racing organisation rather than amateur racing organisation. |

Am sure it will Paul, the majority of the races are for pure breds and I think each meeting is 6 pure bred races viz 3 TB meetings, I for one will be in uproar of that balance shifts.
I think everyone should make an effort to go to the ARO open meeting on 1st Nov. I have a little list of things I would like to see next season inc. dedicated races for mares!
How are your coming along?
I see you're entered for the long haul to Market Rasen!

hi paul will try to get to the aro meeting for sure but have plents of other thinhs on the go at the moment including a well earned holiday :) - if i cant go will get my views aired somehow i'm sure. difficult year continues - tik tik okay but still having same problems as lots of others this year with "summer" Mud fever - limiting work etc and shamal has sick list as long as my elbow-too depressing to go into details. benedict was due out today novice eventing but leg blew up yesterday so he's on box rest now untill rescan in couple of weeks. have couple of prospective owners for next year but none wiling to invest unless they know how many races likely to be next year. having 2 maidens this year been v difficult with v few maiden races between july and now with newbury and lingfield etc - not best race planning ive ever seen, but sure shoe would have been on other foot if had handicappers only. cant please every one which is real pronlem with so few races to chose from |

Hi Paul,
Rest assured that ARO will always remain primarily for the Arabs. The presence of the TB's serves to support the Arab Racing and especially the Anglos and keep the sport going as well as giving people more opportunities to race. The journo hasn't really got across what I was trying to tell him (he wasn't really grasping the concept at all) but I was saying that in time there is the chance that the number of fixtures could potentially be increased therefore increasing the number of races for TB's and Arabs alike. However, if and when this happened would very much depend on registration numbers... |

Paul
Do give me a call or catch up with me at the races if you cannot make the Nov 1st meeting. What we need is feedback and positive suggestions so that race planning can deliver what all of our owners, trainers and jockeys want. And yes it is sods law, one of my mares caught her foot in a rug strap and has put herself out of contention for Market Rasen....but that's horses

Sam hopefully it is relatively superficial but she is quite lame and the vet hasn't been able to ascertain if there is any tendon damage, but she is on antibiotics and reasonably happy in herself
