Great pics!! I LOVE the winter!!! I really like being all cosy and warm with the fire on and it being really dark and miserable outside!! I also love the feeling of Kassie being inside with her cosy rug on and a BIG bed!!! Nice!!
Also really like walking the dog in the rain and having a nice warm bath when I get home.. Hmmm!! |

Well the last couple of winters haven't been too bad in fact I'm sure we get far less rain in the winter than we do in the summer! As long as we have lots of bright crips days with blue sky i'm quite looking forward to it. Although admittedly I am thinking maybe I won't buy another horse until the Spring now. Then again I don't think i'll last that long. |

im wierd and I love it! I love putting my pony to bed in his rugs and clean bed. I even loved the torrential downpour we had today, and he wasnt too fussed about it either. and I love hacking on winter mornings when its cold and fresh. although I do tend to wear a ski coat! |

I don't mind winter most of the time, although the constant mud gets to me and by the time it starts to get lighter at night I've just about had enough of the dark! But I do love frosty mornings, a bit of snow, fluffy Arabs, having them tucked up in their yard or living out with loads of hay, and riding first thing if it's cold.
It also means spring is on its way, of course |

Oh yeah...! Am so looking forward to winter....like I would bubonic plague, a house full of teenage Marxist/Leninists, a bad rash, the uncle noone in the family would talk about except in hushed tones and generally anything to do with cold days in hell....The ONLY thing I look forward to about winter is the 3-4 days it takes to kill flies and other dangerous disease bearing insects. Otherwise I can find a few hundred million reasons that global warming is a boon to all mankind, right along with swimming pools, tropical islands and the beachfront property I'll own if more of those icecaps melt!
BUT I actually looked into spending Christmas at Browns Hotel in London...It just sounds delightful-like something out of an Agatha Christie without the dead body!
Best to you all and happy Guy Fawkes Day! |

Ha ha Gari! I like your humour (though you're serious aren't you?). We've learned better than to see tropical days with endless sunshine and a pool as a remote possibility since we live in a twin tub washing machine at the moment! It's been like a constant virtual geography lesson for several years now we've had such mixed seasons...
Mind you, I love the picture Christmas at Brown's conjours up. I looked at the Christmas/New year programme at a hotel in Scotland recently and it sounded really wonderful. Hard to choose between that and the log fire, Christmas tree lights, and family around at home... |

You might think it would be wonderful to live on a tropical island all year round, it does get very boring with no seasons though and the weather is exactly the same day in day out - hot and sunny - with very few exceptions and when it is different it's usually cos there's a hurricane coming!! LOL
I miss watching the trees leaves turn and the wonderful colours of autumn, not such a great fan of winter, but I also love (and miss) spring with everything bursting into life! |

The Christmas thing is very appealing - and that's exactly why there was a midwinter festival (Saturnalia?). People needed something to get them through the autumn depression - SAD - having to face the next bleak 6 - 8 months! The better truth about winter is showing itself outside this evening. It's fiercely windy and the rain is with us again, with 'weather warning' rain expected tonight.
My sister and I have to try SO hard to discipline ourselves through the 'summer' not to dread the return to mud and slogging around clearing poo and lugging haynets about; riding horses with filthy necks, legs, manes and tails and having to face struggling around in the dark at the start and end of the working days.
I am NOT looking forward to it, fairy-tale Christmas or not!
(The only attractions are the arrival of chestnuts, roasted and wrapped in salami with red wine, occasional good TV, the snug evenings in front of the fire or cuddling up in the warm with OH!!). |

Have to say I prefer autumn/winter to summer ........ cold frosty days and lovely fristy nights, waking up and seeing the frost feathering the hedges and the sun breaking through the clouds.........sorry I'm going all poetical now!
But riding out on frosty mornings is the best for me........ and its my birthday oin October as well and then we have Hallowe'en and Bonfire Night, no noisy fireworks though just nice coloured ones , the horses love them, they refused point blank to come in a couple of years ago on Bonfire NIght, we imagining all kinds of horrible injuries due to the artillery barrages going off around us, but did they bother, did they heck, most of them stuck their heads down and ate and Crystal Oscar and the late Rosie trying to climb the muck heap to get a better view of the proceedings of next doors bonfire!
Christmas is another favourite here as well, like a big kid at Christmas, I even found Christmas trees, lights and decorations on sale today! Was ooohing and ahhing at the lovely things for sale, daughter was with me andwas trying to pull me out of the department, rather like a mummy with a child!
I like seeing the horses all tucked up for the night and then that one last look befoe I turn the lights off and see them all rugged up, contented and eating hay in nice clean stables, bliss!

Hi Roseanne,
Quasi-serious. I was raised in So. Cal-Santa Monica and later Malibu/Topanga...The seasons were a hiccup...the weather glorious year round with usually some idiotic disrupption of fires (seasonally caused by the Santa Ana winds) and flooding when the spigots were turned on above and so much foliage had burned up there was nothing to trap the run off. That said, I love a BRIEF cold snap...otherwise 50F and lower is a major freeze. Here in northern Cal where I live now, I long for So. Cal. and have for 30 plus years.
All that said...a Christmas at Browns or some remote area of Scotland sounds divine! |

Paula you didn't depress me honestly! I agree with you though in one respect, I really do love Christmas ~ log fires, mulled wine, snow and all that malarky. The trouble is what we mostly get is rain, wind and mud !
I skied in Lake Louise just after New Year a few years back and it was absolutely magicial. Snow is very special .

We have something over here - particularly in the Washington state area, wherein as Nikki has noted a lack of daylight, called SAD aka Seasonal Affective Disorder I think it stands for...Basically people start feeling really rotten to downright suicidal in winter and it is due to a lack of sunlight. Doctors can virtually instantly cure it with a special bank of lights and vitamin D! |

Not much, our pony tends to be a bit of a crazed beastie when it's cold and windy! |
