A friend of mine has, on permanent loan, an elderly Anglo Arab mare and me being nosey, I'm trying to find out what her breeding is! Her name is Trespasser but I can't find an Anglo mare on All Breed Pedigree by that name. She'd be around 26 - 30 years old. I don't think her loanee has any papers for her as she's on loan from a charity - has a home for life where she is now
Any ideas where I can find out about her (posssible) breeding? Purely out of curiosity as she's such a lovely mare. SHe's never been ridden - she injured herself and is unrideable - which is such a waste as she used to move like a dream. Old age is catching up with her a bit now though.

Do you have any more information? An idea of location and maybe some pics may help to jog peoples' memory |

TBH now she's gone white-grey she looks like just about any other grey Anglo Arab! More Araby than TB looking but she has no distinguishing markings. She would have been with the Blue Cross a good 12 years ago if not more. I think she was bred down south but that's all I've been able to find out. Her breeder was elderly when Tressie was rehomed - anyone know of any elderly Anglo breeders from down south?! Very vague I know!
I'll have to see if I can find out her full name - I'm sure Trespasser must be short for something. I don't know if the AHS would be able to help with such a vague search? Is there a way to search on All Breed Pedigree using wildcards? I tried but without success. |

Hi.....Have just gone through all my Anglo Arab Stud Books, from 1966 and cannot find any name even similar to Tresspasser
If she does not have papers with her, it may be that she is a part bred arab.....as I only have Part Bred Registers from 1990, drawn blank I`m afraid. The Arab Horse Society may be able to help you
The Comforts Stud (Mr & Mrs King-Smith) bred Anglos for many years down South, and they were mainly greys. Don`t even know if they are still alive. Comforts Paddock Stud, Lingfield, Surrey.
All their Registered Anglos were prefixed Comforts and their names almost invariably began with `C` Remember a few of them, and their stallion Comforts Cascade (AASB Vol.V) |

That's so good of you, thank you I wonder if she could be from Comforts Stud, she is supposed to have been bred by a well known breeder.
I wonder if she wasn't registered, then, as she had an injury as a youngster and wasn't able to be used for anything. I think her breeder was quite elderly when Tressie was born so maybe they decided not to breed from her either.
Thanks again for looking. |

try getting as good as discription as you can...just because she is grey it doesn't mean she doesn't have any marking...they are just harder to see....look for the skin colouring under the grey
also look for whorls...l used to have a vet that would insist on finding at least six whorls when he did the flu/tet papers..would never copy the actual registration papers would insist on doing his own...he would always find one l had missed...very annoying
the better the discription the better the chance of matching her to her papers

She definitely doesn't have any white markings on her legs but could have had white on her face, I'll have to go and give her a cuddle so I can have a look! She's got a pink snip but I don't know how far up the blaze might have gone.
She's very hairy now, so I don't know how much luck I'll have with whorls. That's assuming the people who registered her were better at finding and identifying whorls than me, too She'll be in at night soon so I'll go and have a mooch and have a better look at her. Any excuse to give her a fuss! |
