Im taking my 4 year old mare to our first big show tomorrow (cornish region AHS show) and imnot sure what the judge will be looking for. We have only been in one showing class before this and we won it but there wasn't alot of competition and it was mixed with part breds and anglos and it was a small local show.
My mare behaves brilliantly and has a lovely big trot with ground covering movement, she is very well manered, you wouldnt think she was only 4.
However i havent taught her to stand and stretch her neck forward, will i lose marks if she can't do that?
Just wanted a couple of tips before our big day
Ive put a couple of pics of her so you can see what she looks like Thanks

Pure breds are usually shown in their natural state, so no plaits.
I'll let someone who knows what they are doing talk about the actual class - i've only done natives and plaited ponies in hand.
Can i make a few small comments re your tunrout? For ridden classes (aprt from CdeE and eve performance) it is usually to wear a shirt and tie, rather than a stcok) and gloves.
Your bay girlie is nice too!
Good luck. |

Well the show was a success.
We got a 2nd and a 3rd in the inhand classes and a 3rd and a 4th in the ridden classes. She behaved very well and the judge said she would have been placed higher in the ridden if I could get her on the bit and get her head down as she sticks her nose out a little bit. We were the youngest ridden horse at the show so im very proud and im now saving up some money to have some proper lessons.
I have pics and videos to follow.
The bay mare in my pics is Nakeeta, She is a Rumak granddaughter.
