...with a very short back? Not only does my lovely mare have a short back but she is rather wide and for that reason, I managed to locate a synthetic saddle with a built in changeable gullet system made by 'Shires'. I bought a wide fit 17" and am wondering if perhaps a 16" would give a little more back room.
I have a short backed pure bred arab and i think her saddle is either 16 or 161/2''. I am only 5'2'', so it depends how tall you are and your length of thigh to fit into the seat!!
I have a loan Anglo with a short back and she came with 2 saddles, 1 (apparently made for her, tho' I didn't think it fitted at all well) so it was short to fit her ( I didn't measure it, so have no idea of the size). The point is it didn't fit me (5'8") and gave me painful parts!! I have bought a lovely Ideal saddle which is 17" and she seems happier in that than the 2 she came with!!
Not much help. I know, but it must fit you both, so you need to really try the saddles properly. It seemed fine when i tried her, but on long hacks it really made itself felt!
Hi I'm 5ft 7 and my horse is only 14.3HH. Advised by my saddler she said he'd ideally have a 16.5" saddle which would fit him better but because of my height would mean that I'd be riding too far back on the saddle putting the weight in the wrong place. This could therefore do more harm than good. So had to have 17" saddle which is better for the both of us.
I have an event excel with front panels - I love it -so secure and sits really well.
