A couple of days ago OH was concerned about a pheasant in the garden, he thought it might be injured so I went to have a look, no signs of injury at all, but it just sat there next to the barn wall. Next morning it was still there and OH was fretting again, so I went to have another look only to find she was actually sitting on a clutch of eggs it's in the most stupid place, just inside the gate out to the paddock, we would normally walk within about 2 feet of it every time we take the dogs out why did the daft thing have to nest there so we are using the "alternative route" for the dogs, and I'm very glad our one remaining cat stays in the house but not looking forward to having the chicks running around, we can see the nest from the back door - so can the dogs!!

Have to agree that Pheasants are pretty stupid - they are the only birds that don't run for cover when you are driving up a narrow lane, despite the fact that you slow down to walking speed!!!!!
They are also pretty good at taking flight whilst you are riding a young or novice horse out!!!!
Bless Pheasants, they were obviously put on earth to make us think!!!

We've a lot of them here - my horses are all pheasant proof! I had a big shock one morning when I was feedin the neds - one of the feed skips (reycyled rubber one) was upside down & when I turned it over - a pheasant exploded out of it - most upset - judging by the poo - it had been there all night |

I had thought that the pigeons in our garden were the most stupid birds, but they have now been outdone by this silly pheasant Our neds are all pheasant proof as well Judith, they are everywhere they just wander around the paddocks and gardens as if they own the place! and have a nasty habit of, as you say, exploding, out of the most unlikely places! |
