I am THRILLED to report that Marygold has a mild case of tendonitis! Thrilled because it is so much better than the diagnosis I had prepared myself for.
There are a few damaged fibres on the tendon at the back of the cannon bone (can't remember what it is called!) but that's it. No holes, no tears, no ruptures.
As of tomorrow, I can start to turn her out again, but will build it up gradually.
Again, as of tomorrow, I am to walk her out for 10-15 mins, twice a day for a week. Then I can saddle her up and ride the same. Then start to build it up nice and slowly, watching all the time for signs of swelling & lameness.
The vet is confident that we will be competing again soon. I'm being rather more cautious than that. Nothing this season (maybe a pleasure ride at the end of the season) and we'll start again fresh in the spring.
I can't tell you how relieved and pleased I am.
And a MASSIVE thank you to all of you on here who have been sending healing and positive thoughts. It is really appreciated. In particular thanks to Judith and Pauline for their constant PMs: 'any news, any news?'!! and for Pauline for the long list of supplements which I am sure have helped.
I'm off to drink a bottle of Cava (can't afford Champers - wrong side of pay-day!) all to myself.

That really is positive news Gemma! Think you're correct to err on the side of caution and take things very slowly returning her back to work. Best of luck for Marygold's progress |

Great news Gemma.
Join me about the not competing.
Mydass will not come out again this year I will start him slowly when the season has finished and prepare him for the Horse Shoe next year.
Have plenty to do with the foal coming. , I will possibly do some smaller stuff with Dainty, although I have plans to take her to the Vets class at 3 Rivers and maybe the vets class at the Marathon.
Take it easy time is a great healer.

Toni - I was maybe toying with 20km @ Bramshill on 17th September (I THINK it's that date). It's just off the M3 so easily reachable for you. It's a lovely ride, and it would be great to get our two chestnut PBAs out together. What do you think? |

Sooo pleased and relieved to hear that Gemma - great news
Shah is finally back to normal again, foot all healed up and no more pain or lameness so I've started building him back up slowly to make sure we don't strain anything. I'm taking him for a short and slow outing on the Downs with Julia on Wed, fingers crossed if he's all well after that we should be back in action soon!! |
