Decided to treat myself to a new riding hat, had mine for way too long I foolishly thought it would be simple. Go to shop, point at hat, try one on...hey presto! NOT After years of wearing a skull cap, the newer ones make me look like I have a mixing bowl on my head..so that was out. So I decided to settle for the traditional velvet one. I tried loads on (luckily I'm a good friend of the shop owner) too tight across my forehead, too loose round the sides, too low on my ears, too low at the back, just too damn melon-like..the list goes on. I took one home last night & returned it, as after sitting in on the settee watching TV wearing it (OH has finally decided I've lost the plot!) it didn't fit! Finally settled for a Charles Owen - John Whittaker 2...I think I like it!!! Does anyone else have the same problem or is it just me!?

Think the term is "Mushroom" head I've got a large head the shame, so have to be very careful choosing a flattering style The champion ventair isn't too bad and is very comfy. I'm sure you look fine in yours |

SNAP - I have a deep head and boney lumps at the front due to hitting hard objects/surfaces headfirst as a kid Charles Owen are the best fit for me but they are SO different across the manufacturers. I cannot get a Kudu or Dublin near me (even 3 sizes too big) and some are just way too shallow. The PAS do make everyone look like the Home Pride people and you have to buy 'tight' and let it mould - cue me nearly crying with pain at a hot show 'breaking in' the new hat (over £130!!) |

I'm not sure if I have an odd shaped head, but I am definitely NOT a hat person! They just don't suit me at all. When I got a new hat a couple of years ago I got a velvet one too, can't remember the make, I do like it though it's quite comfortable and doesn't look too bad!! |

I'd desperately love to find a new skull cap that didn't make me look like I'd stepped straight out of super mario!! My old one (the original ones from years back) was soooo comfy but when I tried to replace it a couple of years ago they were all hideous. I ended up going with a fixed peak show style one (hickstead I think) as that didn't like quite as gigantic, but I still hate it!! I have a fairly small head- anyone got any brilliant discoveries?! |

When I worked at much hated but local equine supplies we were taught that champion and Charles Owen hats were different shapes one shaped like o and one 0, but I can't remember which. When they used me as an example I had an odd shaped head so had to have a champion with factory fitted inserts for my odd head. Kept the rep onhis toes though!
My every day hat does give me a red stripe across my forehead I was told it was a new type and would bed in.....2 years later still the same |

I have an odd shaped head - i was dropped as a baby ( Bad Mummy!!) and have a bump onmy forehead which means i get horrible pressure points and struggle to find a hat that is comfy - the best that i have found are the troxel ones that have the dial on the back - no good for the showring though! Until now i have put up with discomfort, but am soon going to hunt for a new one - any ideas of a good hat for someone with an 0 shaped head with an extra bump on the front / side would be helpful! |

Mario Brothers!! That was exactly what I thought of when I tried one of the new skull caps on, they are HUGE!!!! Tried a troxel one on with the dial thingy & just found it felt weird! Carol..it was really about time I invested in a new hat (my head is bigger than I thought!) Bought some jods but you'll be disgusted to find out they are lovely & colourful (sorry!) Managed to cram my arse into a kiddies size..how chuffed am I!? |
