I've put it in here, not in the serious AL discussion, as we were only playing, really......
We did the local bridleways group dressage, the 'Pre Fledgling' test, which is only walk and trot as our canter isn't up to much yet. Only problem (after I'd convinced them to let me do it in a bitless bridle, ) - it's only open to Juniors, so I had to do it non-comp, which I didn't mind in the slightest as it was only for practice.
We rode 45 minutes to get there, and it was in a new and strange place (cue much excitement and no concentration), and in an outdoor arena, horses and caravans all over, on a rubber surface into which we sank to at least fetlocks. Not fun.
Jack refused to concentrate and was not a good boy. Another thing that didn't help was that I think I'd put the noseband a bit tight and low....though that didn't bother him warming up in the field!
My position was atrocious so how in the heck I got 7/10 and 'nice quiet position' I don't know.
So, the judge gave us a very generous 89/140, which is 63.57%. We did NOT deserve it. The photos below are proof! She did say 'pony very difficult at times, but lovely flowing paces and loads of potential'.
But just to prove we CAN do it....

Don't be so down on yourself. Judges aren't allowed to lie Your judge must have seen some good things to get that mark, maybe you had a very high expectation when it wasn't required.
Well done for being brave and doing it and think things can only get better from here x |

We play at local dressage too, great fun and an outing. Good for you for making the effort and going, especially with all those shiny, sun reflecting caravan roofs there.
Jack looks lovely, giraffe impression in the first two pictures but really nice in the other two. Give it another go, you know you want to !

He looks amazing Kelly especially in the last two photos (I know the Llama look so well) If the judge said you sit nice and quietly I expect you do! |

Well done. It's great when a judge is able to see a horses potential. It gives you reason to keep at it. You both looked fantastic in last two photo's. Good on you. |

Thank you all for your lovely comments I think I'm just feeling down and miffed because I know we could've done so much better .
He needs to experience more but it's hard when you have no transport. He's not the most compliant of boys if he has other ideas, he has a VERY strong character and is rather arrogant at times (I do love him really, when he's being nice!). I guess I'm hacking to the hateful show in the next village next month
Thank you all again, it's nice to be complimented |

If it is his first time be happy he didnt go really silly.
I remember when you were going through the process of backing him, and look what you have acheived. He and you learned so much on the day, so be proud.

having seen jack the other weekend and then seeing the above photos i couldn't be prouder! we said on the way home that he could have a better home. kelly you do both of you an injustice! he looks great in the last couple of photos and you are sat nicely.
remember that you can not sit and look pretty when you are working the horse you are on. when it all finally comes together and he's going well at all times then you get to just sit and look pretty. a good judge can see what you are having to do to work him so don't worry about it.
i can't wait to get on him when we next come over. will let you know asap!

Hi Kelly and Jack, a massive well done from me, I too agree with Suzannes comments and it is so good to see you getting out there. A definate pat on the back for you, Jack has the luxury of an honest caring hard working owner. I,m still mega busy, but will be in touch soon. How would you like to come over and see my three now they are all home? It would be great to see you.
Take care, Jilly. |
