When we were kids we just got wet, then I made myself some leather chaps, tried a full length coat - me no likey - then horse got older so I didn't need to ride when it was wet!
Now have a good doer who loves work...and needs it...you endurancy types must have to go bloomin' miles in rubbish weather...what is the:
best material
most comfortable
most reasonably priced
do they come as jods, over trousers, chaps
can you get thermal ones ?????????
Any info on tried and tested brands would be much appreciated.....as I am not counting on a long , hot ,cloudless summer!

Goretex is great - shame about the price !!
I just get wet (well, if and when I do ride out in the wet !!). Have been known to use a long lightweight riding mac though if necessary (think it's a Puffa one - spends most of its time lying in the back of Terence Trent Trooper, my dear old 4 x 4).
Have good reports on Kerritts thermal/polar jods - Dot on here sells them. Also can get them on ebay. |

Second the gortex - buy when in a sale!
I live in my Kerrits - but I really like the waterproof Irideon riding tights Neoprene 1/2 or full chaps are a godsend as well |

Another vote for Gortex!!
I can't do without my North Face 3-in-1 coat. It was VERY expensive but as it's designed to be worn by mad hikers on the Scottish mountains, I figured it'd be good for a mad rider who goes out in all weathers. It's ace.
Also can't do without my waterproof chaps. I think they're mountain horse. Again, brilliant.
Other than that, I rely on phoning my OH when I'm leaving the yard (it's a 10 min drive) to get a hot bath and hot toddy waiting for me! |
