In the past 10 days we have had 1 colic surgery, 1 discovery of serious bone spavin in both hind legs, 1 liver damage, cause still being looked into, 1 of the shetlands had a fit, 1 fractured leg, 1 horse presenting 'tied up' and on Tuesday night one of mine came in with mild tendon damange most likely they think from a slip or strain in the recent wet weather In a yard of 25 liveries the law of average says something might be sick or sorry but 7 in 10 days is making us all feel really unlucky. My boys on rest and the vets are coming back monday night to reaccess. Keeping it all crossed that some r and r will see him through

Oh gosh, so sorry to hear that Nadia. I know how you feel with a curse, believe me, but try not to let it get you down.
Will keep everything crossed for some more positive news this evening.

Hi Lauren, vets coming back monday, I am relatively positive as he is standing on the leg and we are walking and hosing 4 times a day and the heat in the area has nearly all gone so hoping its a sprain as oppose to a tear in the tendon..but you know what its like, better to prepare for the worst than be disappointed on monday! They think he slipped/twisted, no longer beleive it to be a kick.
Will let you know the news next week. Hope your girls ok x |

Vets been out again for my boy and he has gone from 100% hopping lame to 80% sound in just over a week so they are really pleased with him. However being very cautious as they only expected him to be 50% sound. With the significant reduction in lameness, swelling and heat they are relatively happy that he has strained the tendon in particular the sheath like area that holds the tendon fibres in place, as oppose to actually damaging the main fibres so thats good news. Have to continue as I am and vets coming back in 2 1/2 weeks to reaccess. Am allowed to walk him for grass for 1/2 hr at a time and also we have a pen that I can put him in that is only sizable enough to mooch in whilst I muck out - we tried that last night and as a precaution took his brother from his field and put him in the pen first then added louis and they just stood grooming for an hour...if he didnt have the company I dont think I could put him in it, so we'll see how that goes. Keeping everything crossed that it repairs well but doubt we'll be doing much this summer. |

Sending him best wishes for a good recovery!
That's a dreadful run of bad luck.
If it's any consolation, a LOT of people seem to be having a tough time this year....in our family alone there's been a a stroke, a house fire, a hip replacement, a car blowing up and my field rent being tripled all in the last three months!!
Hoping the tide of fortune turns in your favour and that all the ills find resolutions and remedies.
Thinking of you and all who have had things go worng and sympathising a lot!

Gosh that does seem an awful lot of bad luck. Still hopefully that will be it for years! Glad to hear your boy seems to be recovering well. |

Thanks for the support guys - sadly tonight we have a 31 year old native boy that has come down with a very serious bout of his COPD and this may be the end of his days so the run of bad luck on our yard is continuing...I really feel for his owner who bought him as foal and has cared for him so well for all 31 years, she is unconsolable I feel more positive knowing my boy needs time and care whereas some on the yard with the colic ops, copd and frature may face a different outcome.
If anyone else is having a run of bad luck, I'm thinking of you too x |

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear of this poor old boy ~ it's heart breaking when such a well loved friend may be nearing the end of this life's road. I'd be beyond consolation as I'm sure the rest of us here would be too. How wonderful to have had such a well loved horse all his life ~ a truly incomparable experience. I really do feel for his poor owner though ~ and for you. Two oldies next door to our horses are definitely on borrowed time and each summer they have is a little more precious than the last. I'll be thinking of this particular old and dear friend and his owner tonight.
Here's hoping the heavens will turn a kindly eye towards you and yours and to all who are having difficult times very soon.

Hi Lauren, he's doing ok thanks for asking :) We have to trot him up sunday night and call the vet monday am to discuss, he should then be coming friday next week to reexam. He basically spends his days with his feet up (louis not the vet!) I have a small pen that we put erik in with him and they just stand and groom each other for an hour or so and much hay whilst i muck out, but he looks longingly as erik goes out then into the big field and he strolls back for more hosing and walking, hosing and walking...still it could be far worse.
How long did Agonia have off? The vet hasnt indicated timings yet, but i'm expecting months off to recover then a long fittening regime to build the strength back...
Sadly, the 31 year old pony on our yard was pts yesterday morning |

Oh bless him, it sounds like he's being such a good boy. Will keep my fingers crossed for you on Monday.
Agonia had six months off - she did it in June/July and the vet advised we gave her six months off just to be sure. I actually left it 8 months (February/March) - being the neurotic person I am! - and slowly started taking her for walks in hand and building it up from there. As you know, we did quite a bit of inhand last year and now having lots of fun riding, and dare I say it *touching wood* it hasn't caused any further problems. Keep positive!
That's so sad, I hope his owner is okay. |

Finally some good news Vet has signed louis off as sound, no tendon damage phew just mild tendonitis from a strain in the field. He has been boxed then penned for 6 weeks and today he was allowed back in with his herd. The vet sedated him enough to ensure no major explosions of excitement...I have some to give him over the next week slowly weaning him off and then I can start rebuilding his fitness and getting back in the saddle |

Nut - same outcome as Marygold. Such a relief isn't it? Good luck with the recovery, and I hope everyone's luck is going to improve now. |
