Our wee netherland dwarf is four this year... shes so sweet and runs to meet you when you pass her run... she licks you - which i've never known a rabbit to do!
But I think she is poorly! She has never grazed on grass and won't eat hay, won't touch dried grass, I've even tried her on chaff but just will not eat any forage.... She has always been like this...
She gets a dried rabbit mix and lots of fressh fruit and veg.
The last week she has become very skinny and stopped drinking... no diarrhoea, she's well in herself, bright eyes...
I put a little sugar in her water which has encouraged her to drink again and just checked her food and she has eaten a little and a bit of a carrot....
Any rabbit experts know whats wrong with little Molly??

thank you! Must be to do with lack of forage... I can't force feed it though... and at £4 a bale she really can't complain!!  |

Come on Molly Fluffy Bunny eat up your greens and your hay and your food and all your stuff.
I often think about having a couple of bunnies. They are lovely. I had lots.
Sally, Albino New Zeland Giant - hated being picked up but gentle otherwise
Peter, Dutch and Sally's husband and father to
Sukie - it was a fiend, Beauty - like Dad really soft, David, Mike, and can't remember the other 3 - yes 7. the other 3 went on to new homes. Have a feeling one of them was called Barry
Brian - he was the loveliest of the lovies. He licked too. He was found in our friend garden. The friend was called Brian.
Johnnnie - he was just a bunny who came from the pet shop - can't remember why we got him. I think he may have been all alone in the shop and we felt sorry for him.
And my last bunny was Noddy
They all had individual hutches and runs in the garden.

My friend in America has a corgi called Nigel. I know, close, but no cigar. Do I recall that it was you Kirsty 2468 WDWA never too late who wanted a d---f called Nigel on the good ship Ray ? Mmmmm, thought so. I met (well, I didn't actually, I kept a safe distance away at the main door) a Spanish d---f on holiday - she was on the checkout in the Mercadona in Javea. Very very scary.
Anyway, I quite like rabbits. Nice in pies. |

Oh I must take you to my mates house then Kirsty - to my horror last night, I discovered that she has 3 garden gnomes (you just never have an air rifle handy when you need one). She has no shame, she admitted she liked them - so feel free to pop round there and take them. They're evil, but are small so you'll like them.

Merlot, you should have borrowed your friend's gnomes before you went on your hols. You could have taken them with you and sent your friend a picture of them on the beach, and then sent a ransome note!!!
I am not really evil, honestly!!!

Hi Kirsty - had a similar thing years ago with our dwarf - it was his teeth, they get long teeth with sharp bits - have you looked in her mouth?
Vet chopped and rasped bits off and he was perfect again after that. |

thank you, I've just pinned her down and had a look and they seem fine... I have just tried her again with lovely sweet soft hay... she's sniffed it and hopped off!!
I hate gnomes! but I do like nicking them and reorgarnising them in peoples gardens! But yes, all gnomes should alo be called nigel... or norman...

i would take her to the vets asap , rabbits can only live without food or very little food for 3 days then everything shuts down and no more bunny !!!
you might think teeth are ok but you are only able to see the front ones a vet will have to check the back ones out oyu really do need to get her to a vet he can check her teeth and if they are fine will give her a thorough checking over and maybe some fluids put into her, she is only young ive had many go till there 10 or even 13 in some , good luck i hope she is ok but my first mind of thought when reading the thread was TEETH !!!! |

| My sister gives her bunny (the magnificent Maple) soaked alfalfa pellets (nicked from my feed bin obviously). He has been to the vet twice with his teeth, I think dental problems are common. Molly sounds delightful. |

yes yes dental problems. they have to have their teeth cut. Should always put a branch of wood in the runs. Its coming back to me bit by bit. My sis was a Veterinary Nurse - Small Animal Practice and she always used to do it.
Not for anyone in particular
Also house kept pet bunnies live longer than outside pet bunnies i thinks its 9 yrs vs 6 yrs. My memory suddenly has started to work.
Ooooo watch out for fly strike
And absessesesesesese (sp? - sorry)
Clip their nails if they only run around on grass and not below the red line. Too much blood otherwise.

she has tons of wood and tasty wood toys to chew on, balls to roll, bells to ring, tubes to crawl through and food hanging up high for abit of a change.... so she's quite a spoilt bunny....
Been out watching her all evening, and she seems to be eating fine now.... still not eating hay but she never has done... I will book in with the vets tomorrow to have a look at her teeth....
I love my bunny......
and the pixie is mighty knowledgable!! I bow to you great knowledge oh one of the pixie kind! |

My bunnys (or mun muns as my daughter calls them) aren't keen on hay either but absolutely love straw! I fill their beds up with it and they chomp through it delightedly. I put hay in too but they tend to wee on that! I read alot about them when they had babies  as was worried Daisy (the mummmy)would need extra things so now ours get a nice varied diet of different greens especially when tesco reduce them! so they had tesco's finest organic green beans the other night We've just finished our new hutch so have rabbits in 3 different hutches until we get them neutered. Our male rabbit has the biggest man bits ive ever seen on a rabbit me and my mum jumped in shock when we saw them!

I've never bothered with straw, but definately worth buying some and see if she eats it! I will give it a go - thank you!!
I saw a male rabbits with man bits before - and yes, my OH wes really put to shame!! |

oooooo been crying lots this morning and it not even midday!!
I took her to the vets this morning... vet said it was her back teeth need doing, she'll need to by aneathitized (sp???) anitbiotics, and anti inflamatory and a special soft rabbit food... fine I thought....
then she said would cost around £200... but heart sunk and the tears just poured out! I thought there is no way Kev is going to let me pay £200 for a bunny and I couldn't bare the thought of leaving her in pain or worse starve to death...
They let me use their phone to phone him... after a long pause from him and lots of sniffles from me he said I could do it... quote "you can't put the bloody thing down just for her teeth"..... thank god!!!
So shes still with the vets... I'm praying to god she doesn't die on the table...
Why is it when you start crying you can just never stop!!!! Its daft, most people would say its only a bloody bunny!
being silly now... I'm going for a coffee and a fag in the garden to see if I can compose myself and play with baby mitzy for a while (the other bunny)..... |

| Aw Kirsty, hope Molly is ok - she will be. Don't cry - makes me want to start - I am one of those silly people who cries at the sight/thought of others doing it and I'm all upset for you!! Think I'll need to go and have a fag in the garden, and I don't smoke - well, only when I'm drinking.....hmmmmmmm....there's a thought! Go have another ciggie and a glass of wine in the garden. I know it's only lunchtime, but it's Friday and you're having a bad day. Fingers crossed for Molly. Let us know when you hear news. |

will save the vino for this arvo... theres riding to be done, dinners to cook, small person to collect... perhaps a drink would make it all a bit more interesting!
Fridays are drinkies in the garden with neighbour nights... not sure whos' house will light the royal bbq tongith though... not my turn! |
