Sob story first....
18 months ago I went from my hair being really long (down to my bum) to ear length... The hairdresser messed it up big time! I asked for the same style but 6 inches shorter, taking it to the middle of my back. My lovely normal hairdresser had been really selfish and decided to go off and have a baby!! So I was left with a dinny, orange thing that didn't listen to me and spent more time looking at herself in the mirror - combing her hair whilst suppose to be doing mine!!!! Her final cut left me in tears!! She had taken it up to my chin, uneven layers all over the place some as short as 3 cm!! and a 2 cm fringe (i never had a fringe to start with!!!) The manager said they would sort it out but couldn't fit me in for a few days, and then it would be the same dinny orange thing.... Needless to say I left very quickly and never went back... I went straight the hairdressers across the road and she had no choice but to short (reall short!) bob it and leave it very short! It was a good cut, she had done a really good job - but i hated it!
I hve now been going to a different hairdresser for the last year... I have been very clear that I am growing my hair... don't take it off if you can't put it back again!!!! I have been trying to get it to the stage where I can bob it into one length at my shoulders and then let it grown down again (still growing the layers out that the dinny orange thing hacked!!)
Back to the present....
My last three visits to the hairhackers I have asked them to level my hair off so the length is all the same... each time he has ignored me and left the back longer and the sides like flapping spaniel ears!!
Just to add - this costs £115 a go (including my highlights!)
Each time I have just kept putting my hair up and never wear it down...
I went back last week, normal colour and cut stuff... I took three pictures of one length bobs all the way round and said "I want that one". He said "OK, that'll be £115 please"
Its a mess, its uneven, I have one side longer than the other, If you look at me from the back you can see my hair sloping downwards... For the past wee I have been ummmming and arrring... Finally did it this morning!! I rang (feeling very guilty) and asked him to sort it out for me!! but my god it took some guts to do!!! Going back this afternoon - AND I'M NOT TAKING MY PURSE!!!
Would you have asked them to re-do it???
Sorry for the long story, but its silly but I have lost all sorts of confidence since my hair has been hacked of with a blunt spoon! wanted you to know the fulll torment and get inside my mind! (thats tongue in cheek by the way - I'm not that self obsessed!!)

What would I have done. Stabbed them with their own scissors in the eyes. They'd never cut anyone elses hair wrong. Would probably have got locked up for a long time.
Seriously though its not funny and I would be cross. Also I would go elsewhere. |

If you are paying that much money for a haircut (or any money TBH), then you should get EXACTLY what you want IMO. I would keep refusing to pay for at least a year, because they messed your hair up in the first place.
The Customer is always right!!!

free hair cuts for a year..... think i should have been a bit firmer then!!
Nobody else seems to have this problem with constantly picking the wrong ones - I know there are some great ones out there... the two that I would always walk out loving what they'd done have both gone off and done the baby thing!! I think good hairdressers should be sterilized!! Business comes first!! |

Scissors in eyes gets my vote. £115 - blimey, I thought my hairdressers was expensive. If they can't give you the haircut you want from a photograph, they should be working in the butchers not the hairdressers. Not good enough.
And yes, it is a pain when they go off and sprog, especially when you have found one you really like and trust. But, hopefully, they do come back - fingers crossed that mine does, she's on sprog leave at the moment and she might start doing freelance, hopefully sooner rather than later. Selfish I know, but I like the way she cuts my hair. My new one is OK but not quite as good. Ho hum, in the big picture, it's not the end of the world, just a minor irritation. There again, so are scissors in eyes. I'm rambling now, talking pants, so will off to Tesco's and food shop. |

Do what I do, and have the hairdresser come to your home - sproggs'n'all!!! Guaranteed a good haircut then, providing you don't mind waiting forever while their little darlings destroy your house!!! |

First of fair enough your usual hairdresser was of.. But i do think its best to stick to somebody who knows your hair which if your going from salon to salon your not giving anybody the chance.. BUT remember the customer is always right so in your case you should have come out happy. I do think if you took pictures a good hairdresser becouse in the begining you were having such a drastic change should have given you a full consultation before cutting !!! I cant understand why none have done as you have requested ? Being fair i know it depends where you live but what your paying would be the going price around the supposidly better salons here Exeter. I can honestly say if it had happened when i had my salon not that it ever did.. I personnally would have cut it myself or got the another stylist to rectify problem .. you would have been refunded and i would as a peace keeping !!! offered you the next cut and colour also free as once back again and keeping the next free appointment it would be unfair on you to call/slate my salon!! free or not you still have come back so it could not have been that bad !! If you get my drift!! In the begining you should have said straight away you were unhappy..asked for the girls qualifications and not taken them vocally but asked to see them.. Also checked is the hairdresser / salon state registered ? Good salons will have the salons and the hairdressers qualifications awards on display... well i did to show off!!! You could have also took it to sml claims court or to the hair federation to look into.

I am a dreaded hairdresser[not orange, promise]and i dont know anyone who hasnt had a bad experience with their hair.the worrying thing is that anyone can open a salon:there are no qualifications required.I do know that you are well within your rights to demand a redo free of charge and if i were you id be asking for my money back.Salons can be really intimidating but dont let that put you off.Any attitude from them can be delt with by a mention of writing to local papers, that would obviously be bad for business. They should be bending over backwards by this point. Then in future avoid oompaloompas at all costs and for goodness sake if they say"are you going any holidays this year"RUN AWAY...........VERY FAST |

The first salon was part of a well known large chain of hairdhackers.... the one I use know if very nice small company, owner is on site actually cutting hair on the shop floor with his staff (which I like), its not pretentious at all.... Went back this afternoon and he actually said he'd made a mess of it, he didn't know how he'd managed it but apologised profusely (sorry spelling is awful!) The shape is better, but one side is still a bit longer than the other - but at least the shape is right this time.... maybei'll just walk around with a cocked head until i grows!
But he did say I could whip him as punishment!!! |

Make them sort it FOC. You, as customer, have the right to be happy with the service you've paid for - and paid dearly for - £115!! Hairdressers always make me feel I'm the one being a complete divvy, and I'm useless at standing up for myself so I admire you for being brave Kirsty5278. Stick to your guns! |

Kirsty, I am so sorry to hear about your horrendous experience with the hairdressers. I am absolutely paranoid when I go into have mine done. I have long hair down to my waist and loads of it. I'm always being asked if i have extensions which really p's me off I always ask for the ends off and then proceed to glare at them in the mirror until they have finished. think they are too scared to take more than i've asked for i think, didnt she hold it up first and say "this much". We have a very famous hairdresser here in Liverpool called Herbert, he had his own tv series once and he's always telling me how he'd love to style my hair. What he really means is he'd love to cut it short. Have you not thought of having some sort of extensions in whilst it grows at least a little longer, dont they do them that dont have to be glued in and are a bit kinder to your hair - just a thought. Why dont you ask Arabian Girl, Lynne, i'm sure would never dream of hacking hair off that you hadnt asked for but she might be able to give you some professional advice. I really feel for you as an inch off my hair is like the end of the world. I find that the dearer the salon the more they dont listen to you. |

Blimey what a nightmare makes me realise how lucky I am. I've had the same hairdresser since I was 17 and we have been friends since six. I trust her completely to do what I ask her and she only charges £16!!! I suggest you find a nice freelancer that you can trust who won't charge such silly money. I made my friend's day last week when she cut my very long hair into a chin length bob. Took her two hours to get it just right and she still only charged me £16. But when it was long she took exactly the amount I told her to off and wouldn't have dreamt of cutting more. |

thankfully my hair is do-able now... and it will grow soon and i shall have my hair down to my knees!!! well, maybe just to my back again... |
