Are they really *****ly? Makes me wonder if they are, as you see people handling them, and of course they are sold as pets here too, $60 will get you an albino one in any Pet Store. Next time I am in town I will make a point of going to find one.
Mind, they sell weird pets here, have the hairless Guinea Pigs reached British shores yet? Gross, poor little things, they look like naked mole rats. |

Saw a hedgehog up close a while back. It was around the back door near my GSD, I was afraid Xara would hurt it. Turns out Xara was most uncomfortable by its presence and wouldn't even look at it. I watched it for ages. They scratch ALOT. |

(Mine are free range and I can vouch from my whiffy dog that it has not been de-scented!)
I have a friend in Dorset who's son has a raccoon, apparently it is a great chat up line "Fancy coming home to see my raccoon?" |

I had four a couple of years back they got abandoned and stranded,by their mother and I ended up taking them in and feeding them, till they were just over 1lb each in weight, let them all go when they looked like small footballs. There only preditor here in Britain is the Badger. Lovely creatures... |

That's an African Pygmy hedgehog and they are sold as pets in the UK too---much to my disgust I might add. I have had a lot of wild British hedgehogs over the years to hand rear or rehabiltate after accidents and they are wonderful, but they are real little wanderers and however big the enclosure is they want out---which of course happens when they are old enough or recovered. The African ones are very similar and have a similar romany life style in the wild so I think it is terrible to coop them up in cages inside. It's the same with all "exotics"---things like Sugar Gliders and even Chinchillas---they just shouldn't be caged in my opinion.
That is a seriously cute video clip though |
