Had to share our happiness at being back in the show ring yesterday!
My mum rung me to say there was a horse show on in the park that our stables adjoin at 8.30am! She went to enquire what it was and was told it was the South Lakes Welsh Pony + Cob Soc Medal Show. As we only have 1 rideable part bred Sammy (bay in my sig) it had to be him that we took. Although gorgeous he is a lazy boy usually and doesn't box so he has got to the grand age of 14 and has been to about 20 shows as a ridden horse in his life! Used to do in hand but then decided it wasn't for him. So as it was on our doorstep (literally) we got him ready and went
Have to say it was the strangest experience showing with a 9 week old baby. I had to keep stopping what i was doing to feed her although her great gran did a fantastic job of looking after her all day and my eldest stayed at home with daddy.
Anyway here is the best bit - we won our class There was only 2 of us in though so although pleased didn't feel like it had been a big challenge. After the class was the Medal Championship - bit different to Arabs but it is a group show so high standard but against all the purebred A's, B's, C's and D's ridden winners and 2nd places.
My mum said you might as well go in the Championship as its on now. I knew he was going well but wasn't going to bother as didn't think he stood a chance as there were some very nice horses in.
We only WON!!!! Im still smiling today!! So pleased with him he was a star and it poured down all day. The judge said he was magnificent and people who i didn't know were all saying well done he's gorgeous why haven't we seen him out before Think he is going to make a comeback if only we could get him to the flippin shows!!
My mum (madalice) is over the moon and we had the most fantastic day (and for anyone who knows us we didn't argue once we laughed so much we nearly wet ourselves - motherhood must be making me mellow)
Can't wait to get some transport and we will be out with the Arabs again!
Brilliant! Well done dinkidoo and well done Sammy! How amazing is that to go out and take the championship on your comeback outing...and how you did it with a 9 week old baby in tow is beyond me!! You must be some kind of superwoman! Congrats!
Don't know about superwoman but could have worn big pants over my jods to save the world from seeing my saggy bum!
I just about squeezed into my showing gear which is all size 12 and im now bordering on a 16 My boots were so tight they have left blisters behind my knees
Was worth it though and such an incentive for my diet! I can't afford new clothes
Will hopefully add some pics later - need to find out who the official photographer was. He took lots, when i saw the camera point my way i sucked my tummy in and held my head up higher to hide my double chin
Go Sammy!!! Its all those halt to halt transitions he has been practicing..or maybe it was Carols Wonderwoman legs! Would have loved to have been there to see you guys in all your glory
