Still to be confirmed these 14 horses have been stolen..
-----------------------------------------
The more people that know the better.
From the EGB web site
The 2 Eastern Eurpopean males were sighted in the Richmond area of North Yorkshire on 20/05/08, they were driving the white Ford van, registration N253XAJ and today have been spotted in Cramlington, Northumberland.
I have also been able to find out some more details of other potential horse thieves in the North:
There is a group of travellers who reside in the West Yorkshire area, who have been taking pictures of horses on a digital camera and offering them for sale, once they have a buyer they then come back for the horse/pony. One of their gangs was stopped near Masham, North Yorkshire on 17/05/08. There were 4 males, driving a blue VW Golf, registration YD51XUM. When stopped by the Police, on of them had a digital camera with him and was trying to quickly delete the pictures they had taken of horses.
Also 2 Irish men were questioned about them taking pictures of a Shire horse in the field on 18/05/08. They made off in a silver coloured people carrier on Irish number plates. Again this was in the Richmond area of North Yorkshire.
Worst of all: On 22/05/08 a mare and her new born foal were stolen from Brompton on Swale near Richmond.
Please be on the look out for the above vehicles, every little bit of information can help, you might think it is insignificant, but to the Police it might be the little shred of evidence they need.
---------------------------------------------------------- Just a bit more about the ALERT on the EGB site & Info.
The Red Landcruiser VRNo. is B16 RBB The White (mini Bus Size) Ford Type Van is N253 XAJ. Blue VW Golf is YD51 XUM and they also have a Silver People Carrier with Irish Plates.
There has been sightings of these me in RICHMOND North Yourkshire 20/5 MASHAM Nth. Yorkshire 17/5 Mare & Foal stolen 22/5 from BROMPTON on SWALE, Nr Richmond Nth.Yorkshire. Also In Derbyshire. Nottinghamshire, Cumbria, & Yesterday the Police in STAFFORDSHIRE reported the first vehicle & the Red Landcruiser was seen with men Taking pictures of horses in fields in Shares Hill ,Near CANNOCK, Staffordshire.STAFFORDSHIRE now on ALERT....
Its Appleby Fair coming up soon, Henley in Arden Sale is the Sat 7th.June. We understand the vehicles comes from/reside in WEST YORKSHIRE.any clues???????
Staffordshire Police will take any sightings on 08453 302010.
KEEP an eye on your horses folks...Sue

Copied from the H & H Forum. dated 30 May 2008. My friend has just informed that two horses were stolen from a place called Ringley Road, Greater Manchester last night. A red 4 wheel drive was seen in the area at about 11.30pm - She has no other info at the moment! God will I be glad when this nightmare is over - and all of you!! |

I've been told about this on the yard i'm on. What i found quite suspicious was, the other day, as two of us were walking off the yard into the carpark, a white van pulled in, and asked us if we are interested in buying flat screen TV's. Then the yard owner appeared, and the van driver asked if he was looking for flat screen TV's to buy. The yard owner said no, so the man drove off. I was just wondering if that was possibly an excuse to get onto the yard? Also, a number of people said they where doing research on young people, and asked if they could take pictures of some people riding, and got them to sign a "contract" yet didn't get a copy. I wasn't down at the time, but i think it's rather suspicious. This is in Southport, Merseyside. |

After someone kindly pointed me in the direction of horsewatch I am stunned with the number of these incidents....
Please check your regional site via http://www.ukhorsewatch.org.uk/
They have forums to post and alert of incidents locally... very scary but better to know!!
Also membership to horsewatch is free but they ask a donation to help....
I would highly recommend a visit to your regional site.... |

I had a telephone call from someone with an Eastern European accent wanting to come and see my horses. I assumed that they'd happened upon my web site?? They claimed to be studying at college and living locally to me but originate from Saudi. They may be genuine but this is too close for comfort in light of these sightings !! |

Oooooo, too close for comfort. Don't let 'em in would be my first reaction. Ask them for contact details of their college and tutor/professor and see what reaction you get. Definitely err on the side of caution, it's just not worth the risk. |

We are in lancs very close to the areas where the horses were mean't to have been stolen. Told my yard owner of this and she is also aware but said she has called the yards in question and they have said they haven't had any horses stolen. Its all very strange, a lady on our yards husband is a police officer and has also been looking into it. It seems like lots of rumors but no actual fact at the moment - almost like a scare campaign. I find it very very worrying especially as im used to our horses being at home and feel very vulnerable with them at livery even though they are checked often. Does anyone actually know of anyone that this has happened to? |

I have just emailled my local equine police officer from horsewatch because of my recent intruders...
They have advised me that this email/text has been very much "enlarged in its telling" and was just to highlight an occurence in a part of the country... he told me not to worry unneccessarily.... |

they were teens, got in and chased my horses to the point of really stressing them and sweating them up... they've been caught in a few yards locally jumping on horses backs and getting the to buck and rear to see how long they can stay on for....! My other thread explains it a lot better... "i need your help" I'm in the denmead area... where are you then?? |

NOT CONFIRMED YET ...............
14 STOLEN HORSES. Copied from another web site. from 9pm yesterday. -------------------------------------------------------------
The 'Eastern Europeans' Have Stolen 14 Horses.... Yesterday at 9:15pm Cross posted from another forum. I'm trying to check its authenticity so dont want to panic anyone but i know alot of you are up north and i'd want to know if they were down here .... "PLEASE BE VIGILANT!!!! 9 ASSORTED COBS WERE STOLEN LAST NIGHT FROM CANNOCK IN STAFFORDSHIRE AND A FURTHER FIVE WERE STOLEN LAST NIGHT FROM LICHFIELD IN STAFFORDSHIRE. Horsewatch have formally released details, as they think that these horses will be either shipped abroad or sold through Appleby Fair in a few weeks time. They seem to be targetting coloureds, irish types and mares with foals at foot. They are more interested in coloureds than plain horses. Also tack is not safe to be left in tackrooms or sheds without proper security. The RED landcruiser and White van, plus a blue VW have all been identified as being the perpetrators vehicles. They are the same eastern european men that Horsewatch have had reports of being sighted in Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Previously to that it was Kent and the home counties. Please pass on any information to the police if you have any information relating to these thefts." Back to top

Hi Mandy, I'm on the Staffordshire Ring Around are you, and I've heard nothing so far on these 14 Cobs and Ray rang me this afternoon from the station, he'd heard nothing so far...so although it was given out yesterday at Saddlers Riding Club show, we're still waiting for confirmation. Bet they're Gypsy horses and they won't tell the police cause they were hot anyway.
Did hear there was some doggy goings on in Warwickshire, Hockley Heath with a Black Purgeot Car in a field.
Most of the old Horsewatch sites are out of date, out of us, or US. Says it all..Sue

Hi, I was only told there were men in a field in Hockley Heath with a BLACK Purgeot( said to have the same registration number as the white van used earlier N253 XAJ) & that would associate it to the Red Landcruiser B16 RBB,thats wanted by the police.
Please find the link for 2 STOLEN COLOURED COBS on 2nd JUNE from Clayton, Bradford, West Yorkshire.

well i can see now why we all have to have passports to stop our horses being stolen then! just how do these people expect to sell these horses on without them? and who would by a horse without a passport now? i suppose it works in the same way as it does to stop people neglecting their horses or abandoning them.
did you know that anyone can come on to your land without permission. they can look round and touch all your stuff and there isn't a dam thing you or the police can do to stop them. it's only if you actually catch them in the act of stealing that you can do anything. gypsies were stealing coach batteries from where nev works so they shut the battiers and called the police as soon as they next turned up. the police said that as they hadn't actually stolen them this time they had to open the gates or be charged with kidnap! i kid you not!!
keep your eyes open, one came up our drive and looked round and when i confronted him he said he would have knocked on my door if he had found anything interesting!

If any of these horses go to Appleby, I reckon they won't need a passport and/or they'll get swopped for something else or two of the same but less value and if any end up at the knacker mans yard I bet they'll be able to provide a passport to cover the killing....I'd get a big dog if I were you and I think the other thing is called Trespass, a civil matter, ask your solisitor. |
