I have advertised on the for sale section under mares, Dream of Khadija, Belle to her friends.
Belle is being rehomed through no fault of her own, she doesn't belong to me and her owner really want her to find a new home.
I have had lots of interest I have to say from advertising on here, but the difficulty is Belle has a couple of issues - none of which are her fault. I've been looking after her since January - and she's coming on beautifully. She just really needs the right home and the right enviroment so that she can excel.
Belle has mild vasculitus which is being kept under control and treated really quite easily. Although as some of you may know this is possibly destined to be a lifelong problem for her, and will need someone with experiance, knowledge and patience to care for her and make sure it doesn't become a serious problem.
Belle also has som behavioural issues, just because as when she was born her owner was going through a messy divorce and I think it is fair to say has lost interest, and so Belle has never had the handling or the education she deserves. In fact she has quite lioterally been off the place she was born in any shape or form just once in her life. As I say since Janauary she has made huge progress, but still has a long road in front of her to settle completley. She doesn't bite or kick, and really has the sweetest nature when she is in the right frame of mind, she is just very easily spooked and hasn't seen alot.
Her owner has agreed for me to try and rehome her at the price she is advertsied at - and I would urge anyone who thinks they might be able to give Belle a wonderful home to please contact me - I am happy to answer any and all questions. I am not exagerating when I say I really do not know what the future holds for her if she can't be re-homed.
Thanks for reading guys. Alicia

Hi Christine - there has been a thread on Panel about Vasculitus. There amy well be two in fact - mine was Mud Fever or is it, then I am sure there was one labelled Vasculitus. In it's shortest form it is an infection of the blood vessel - not a great deal is known about it, but Belle seems to have the mildist form of it I have come across to date. I also have a paper on it that a very kind lady sent me, so if anyone is interested I can forward this to people. My vet treated it when it was more severe with a Steroid based cream, a few people I have spoken to, and who posted onthe threads, seem to have treated this for years successfully. To be honest it's not something I envisage ever being a huge problem as long as someone keeps a keen eye on it. Alicia

Do you know what has caused the vasculitis. Has she been blood tested? |

Vasculitus isn't caused by anything, it is something most horses can carry apparently- it's only if it is activated that it appears. Some horses can go for year and then show signs of it, it can commonly be mistaken for Mud Fever. I have paid out as much as I can afford in investigation and treatment, but my vet is very good and the fact that it responded to treatment was a great sign. It is felt that Arabs can be more prone given their thinner skin and hair - basically is Belle had been a hairy cob she could have carried this all her life and never displayed anything. Vasculitus can also be mistaken for photosensivity and gain treatment for this could be just as succesful, purely because Vasculitus IS photosensitive, meaning that sun can either trigger it or help it multiply rapidly.
Edited to say that belle only showed symptons last year, and this was after a cut to her leg and being turned out 24/7 in lush grass and not particularly being tended to. The affected leg hs been treated succesfully and touch wood has never returned, it is now one front and one back that is affected mildly |
