Im writing for some advice on re-homing/loaning nervous ponies. I own a 14 hand cob pony that I bought 2 years ago without being told the full story with him. Alfie is slightly cold backed which doesn’t cause a problem as long as you take your time with the tacking up and girthing up. I take him for a little walk while doing the girth up gradually and this works well as well as lunging him before mounting. Alfie can be nervous with strangers and needs to form a bond you before allowing you close enough to ride him but when he knows you his like a dog coming to the window for treats etc. When you are on him there isn’t an issue you can hack out or jump all day. Alfie has got a huge jump on him so has got loads of scope to go far. But im 50 and I can’t do him justice cos I haven’t got the time, I have got a new foal, 3yr old and veteran Arabs to look after. I need all your advice on where’s best for me to advertise him on loan or maybe future buy (after loaning) he would have all tack. If Alfie is happy because he isn’t the type of pony you can chuck a kid on that seen him advertised in paper, you need to be kind gentle and understand with him to get the best. So small experienced teenager/adult would really suit him. He would work well with parelli owners as he lunges to command and hacks out in hackamore. I don’t want to get people calling up that don’t understand the care that is needed with sensitive ponies. If you no anyone that might be interested or any advice please reply on here or PM me as the right place for him to be happy is most important. Cheers Annie.
hi i just thought i would add that i know this pony well and he is as annie say`s a real pet, his only downfall is that he is very sensitive, but wow what a jumper!!! in the right hands he would be a star. I really hope annie can find the right place for him. good luck.
Thank you for the tips. I'm still looking for a loving loan home for Alfie. If you think you could help please still write as he is wasted at home with me as he could go jumping affiliated easy. Annie x
